Question regarding Emulators for the TP2
I have installed pocketSNES and PocketNesterPlus on my new TP2. Both emulators will install and bring up the main screen. The PocketSNES will not let me load a single rom. When I click on the "Load Rom" menu it does nothing. With PocketNester, I can load roms, but the display turns into a small flashing image in the upper left hand corner of the screen. When I pause the game, it goes to a better, full screen image, but as soon as I go to play it again, it goes back to the tiny unplayable image. I have done some research and maybe these emulators won't run on the TP2. I just assumed they would because they both run fine on my HTC Titan. I love to play NES and SNES games on my phone and would really appreciate a way to make this happen on the TP2. Does anyone have any suggestions?

A followup for responders...
I do legally own all the games that I want to play on my touch pro 2. I want some super mario games, final fantasy and dragon warrior series. I'm under the notion that if you own the games and dl roms to play on other devices, you're not breaking the law. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I don't want to do anything illegal.

Thats because those emulators are for VGA devices.Their is a .cab/fix out there that will lower the resolution on the tp2 allowing you to play it,ill try a search and see if i find it and will post here.
Heres is .cab 1)Install SdkCerts. first 2)Install WVGAFIX.cab file Soft reset Now you can see WVGAFIX in all programs. Let me know if that works. |

For PocketSNES , what version are you using?
Tell you waht, here is a version of PocketSNES that I have used a few times. It's the only one that really works ok on the TP2. This is a VGA version made by nOp . He has it in .7z format so I extracted the files, then made a .cab file which I have set to default install in Program Files. You may change the default location on install. I also created a shortcut in the start menu. For this version, you won't need tgetfile. It uses gsgetfile instead which is placed inside the default psnes install folder. Hope this works for you. BTW, I get 3/4 of the screen when I play. You will probably need that WVGAFIX to get full screen. I would also recommend you download and install KforRaphael which allows you to map out more keypad buttons. |
Re: Question regarding Emulators for the TP2
Check out the SmartGear thread thats labeled something like "Smartgear works great on TP2 NES/Genesis". Bitbank , the developer of this great emulator has been posting in here and has been actively updating his emu. As of right now, NES works great on it. Genesis supposedly does also but I will note some people are having probs getting Gen to work correctly. If you're concerned about quality, NES emulation has been fixed. Sound , according to him has been fixed perfectly almost. SNES is still in development and he's not sure if he will spend any time working on that portion. SNES emulation is difficult.
Anyway, go check it out. It's much better than it once was in version 1.0.4. And again, it's still in testing. It also isn't a free app for the full version. But if you ask me, that's a small price to pay for a really good multi-system emulator that is actively being worked on. He's considering adding CPS2 arcade emulation if anyone is interested. |
Re: Question regarding Emulators for the TP2
i found an alternative solution as well,
start up android 2.1 on tp2, download snesoid. works great and its free! |
Re: Question regarding Emulators for the TP2
ppcgpirate - Not a bad idea... BUT .. there will be no sound. Games are not fun to play when you don't have sound. Ruins the experience and gameplay IMO. Thanks for the idea though.

If you install the tgetfile.cab then you will be able to load roms from PocketSNES, easiest solution. This one i provided is a sort of trial but it works fully just every 5 roms you load it will nag you once until the 10th and so on.

Re: Question regarding Emulators for the TP2
You don't need tgetfile for the version of PocketSNES that I uploaded. It uses Gsgetfile instead which is auto placed into the install folder. The VGA version that I posted above is a fix for the last version made for PPC. I believe it was 1.12.200 or something like that. If you use any other version .. eg smartphone version by masterall, or the older non vga WM 2003 versions, then you will have more trouble and it won't run as smoothly. That's why I posted that. It's the most usable SNES emulator for newer PPC's. Masterall's version is for smartphones like the Blackjack and Motorola Q. That version won't display properly because it was made for small screens (320x240) and it is also not optimized for ARM code, instead it ran better on TI OMAP CPU's. Thus that version is incredibly slow.
However, if you think you know of a better version , with more compatibility on our TP2's, please do post it up here. Only reason I know so much about these friggin emulators is because I have been looking high and low for the last 3 years for a good one. SNES ran crappy as hell on the Moto Q's. Hell, the Moto Q's ran crappy period lol. There just seems to be an utter lack of devs out there doing any coding for WM console emulators. Damn I-S*IT is getting all the devs. On a last note, if you need tgetfile for the version of Pocketsnes you are using (or any other Tillanosoft product), just go to their home page and download the latest version of tgetfile for PPC. No nagging screens at all. |
