Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 as the default browser...
Running Mighty ROM on my Sprint Touch Pro2!
So I've set Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 as my default browser using a registry editor. My problem is that when I launch it by tapping "Launch Browser" it launches Java and instead of going straight to the browser it puts up a white screen with "Opera Mini 5 beta 2" highlighted and the options on the soft keys to "Launch" or "Menu" Any idea on how to make it go straight to Opera Mini without the need to ask permission? |

How is this done? |
Re: Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 as the default browser...
Get a registry editor for your touch pro2.
Next, edit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\: DEFBROWSER (Had to put a space between : and D because it kept making the emoticon :D, but in reality there should not be a space.) When you choose the : DEFBROWSER there will be options to change some values. The value that has the file path leading to Opera or PocketIE, whichever is your default, should be changed to the file path that leads to your Opera Mini install. For example, mine said "Windows\blahblahblah\Opera9.exe or something like that. It now says "Program Files\Opera Mini\jbed.exe" and the quotes do have to be there or else it won't work. But like I said, right now it launches Java and then you have to actually choose to launch the Beta from there. I've got no idea how to change that from happening. |
Re: Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 as the default browser...
Try adding something like -run "s1_" to the end of the path.
So mine is like: "\Storage Card\Program Files\Opera Mini\jbed.exe" -run "s1_" The 1 may be a 0 or 2 on your setup. Steve |
Re: Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 as the default browser...
I was pointed to this thread over at XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...75#post5103675
I didnt like the software, browser choosing software, was really slow and it never inputed the right addresses when I selected Opera Mini 5 Beta 2. I really wish there was a simple cab that did this, just like there was with Opera Mini 4... |
Re: Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 as the default browser...
Ok so using the TF3D still when clicking on the browser it still opens the Opera that was already on the phone not 10 beta 2. When installing the new opera it asks do you want to use it as the default browser but it still doesnt open 10 when i search something or have a webside as a tab so it their a way to make it the default or do i have to always open 10 to start using it?

Re: Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 as the default browser...
That's because Opera mini is not a native app, and running inside a virtual machine.
Ever wonder why you can't copy/paste on mini? Java is a virtual machine... that is, it runs independently of the rest of your WM system. Opera Mini is not even aware that your phone is running Windows. It would be the same on any Java enabled phone. I recall someone found a workaround to make Opera Mini input the address of a link clicked outside the Java runtime environment... it was an app someone made which would basically copy the link to memory, then open opera mini and manually enter each letter by simulating keystrokes. The problem is, which each version of Opera mini, the manual input method would need to be tweaked. I haven't seen anyone use it in a while, and it seems to be a very last-resort-ish way of going about this. |
Re: Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 as the default browser...
So does that work as well as for me using Opera 10 b2 to set it as my default as well?

Re: Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 as the default browser...
highly recommended:
mortscript & jzsmartmort get latest versions that works great with all browsers & mini52b, including opening links from email & selecting which browser to use. |

this uses copy/paste to open the links in the browser you want... in jzsettings under operamini5 make sure to match up your edit mode fullscreen/htckeyboard enabled or not (mini keyboard). if you have a mismatch here the URL will fail. just set it up on an imago a few minutes ago. works great on TP2 also. |
Re: Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 as the default browser...
could someone make a cab of these registry edits?

Re: Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 as the default browser...
thats what i have and all it does is bring up opera. maybe i didnt word my question right...Do the bookmarks on the main screen of the tf3d load directly to that link or does it only load the opera application?
If they are working maybe it's something else...what do you have for the other values under defbrowser? (default,0,2,3,opera browser) |
Re: Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 as the default browser...
When I click on the globe, IE starts, when I click on links Skyfire starts. It really isn't a big deal, but some of the sites I visit say they are no longer supporting Skyfire. I already have those sites bookedmaked on Opera anyway.

Re: Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 as the default browser...
I made the above change in the registry... I also set 0 to say Opera Mini 5 instead of Opera Brower... When I hit the favorites on the Internet Tab, it just loads the browser, and NOT the website. Then inside of Opera Mini, the bookmarks button doesn't even point to the same favorites as the Internet Tab... 1. How do WE all get the website to load, not just the browswer... 2. Get the bookmarks to bring up the favorites?

Re: Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 as the default browser...
