Yes, im aware. I should have said custom roms with newer sense or manilla. Disable it at home, restart, and see if the issue persists. To me it takes too much resources...

i have this problem too... my solution: use microsoft myphone and archive some of the texts. this issue was really bad when i had over 2000+ messages stored on the phone. Now i keep about 100 on the phone and the rest archived, the speed has picked up quite a bit on the phone end.

I am running Juicy R3 & I had problems until I installed Vit0 SMS-Chat. Shown here also using TouchPal 3.5

I absolutely LOVE this app (it's one of my favorite apps, I have used it since my Titan days) & get no lag whatever using it, but it took me a while to realize it worked with WM 6.5/sense 2.5. It DID NOT work the first time I installed it (it would receive, but not send so it was useless)

I had given up, but somebody else figured out that SMS-Chat works perfectly as long as you disable the laggy HTC messaging first. This works perfectly, I get no lag at all for texting & use ArcSoft for MMS.

Yep. Not just messaging, but WM in general is buggy and slow, at least in my opinion. Back on topic, I hate that when you're in a SMS convo texting back and forth, when you close it, it still shows up as new texts. And to clear this, you have to open and close that convo the same number of times as it thinks you have new texts. So, if it thinks you have 10 new texts, you have to open and close that specific convo 10 times. If there is a way around this, please let me know as I haven't found it. Its also slow opening, slow closing, slow switching from portrait to landscape. There are other things I don't like about it that I can't think of now, but continue to use it. Honestly, its not that bad, just frustrating. This is on a stock rom btw.

You must still be running the stock ROM. I hated that issue, but I haven't had it since I switched to 6.5/6.5.3 ROMS. Now as soon as you exit a convo it marks all message inside as read.

I believe there is a cab here (or included in goodthings cab?) I know I had it fixed somehow on the stock ROM. And as Wolf pointed out this isnt an issue on newer ROMs (custom) if you willing to play ball. Honestly the combo of 6.5 with MS 3.5.1 makes for a peppy TP2.

I do like the idea that HTC is going for with Sense and their HTC Messaging application, but think it needs some faster hardware or some tweaking to make it run more efficiently.

I don't have this problem at all with the stock VZW 6.1 ROM. I have tried Mighty ROM and several others and they all exhibit this lag behavior. One of the reasons that I stay with the stock ROM.

As for the read messages not being marked as read, its a bug in the tmail.exe program and there is a cab to fix it. Search Mark SMS Messages as Read Fix.cab

I should add that at this moment i have 2100+ text messages on the phone with no lag.

Honestly I think all HTC needs to do is auto-archive older text messages so they are hidden behind a link like the WM client does when your convo gets too long. That would keep it from having to load so many messages at once. I also don't understand why the cursor is disabled until all the messages are loaded. I could maybe understand why a message couldn't be sent, but you should at least be able to start typing.

If they take care of one or both of those things HTC Messaging would be fine.
