is anyone else annoyed with their messaging?

it seems that everytime i click on a person to talk to in MS messaging, text, then X out back to the main messaging screen (where it lists all your convos), it freezes with the top portion still stuck at the last view with the rest of the list below.

this continues sometimes up to a minute before i can do anything with the phone. ive had the same problem with many roms such as Juicy, Energy, and MightyMike so i dont think its rom specific.

i use MS myphone to backup/restore my info since i heard it was more efficient then PPCPimbackup. i do a lot of texting/emailing and it seems like everytime i send a message this lag continues. ive tried deleting my sent items, deleted items, and drafts to clear up some space but the problem persists.

is there a certain amount of messages that it can store before it starts going haywire? its honestly driving me insane that a "smartphone" cant even handle a simple task such as text messaging.

am i missing something or is this a problem that everyone has just learned to live with?

PS. im sitting here waiting for the phone to load my deleted messages 1 at a time so i can delete them and make more space. as it loads 100 messages, i select all, wait for all 100 to be selected, THEN i am able to delete it. after that 100 is finally deleted, another 100 shows up as if it is SLOWLY recounting every message and i have to repeat again.

You certainly aren't the only one. I've noticed it a lot as well on my Mighty ROM. Hopefully it will be fixed in the near future.

I hate it that when you use the Touch Flo text messaging it takes forever it seems to load up before you can send a text, then if you receive a text it can be another minute or so before your phone unfreezes after getting the incoming text notification...The lagging/freezing is not quite as bad as when you use the regular text messaging format-but if you use that your phone doesn't seem to realize that you have read any incoming texts from the contact you are having a conversation with...

stock as in wm 6.1? i had absolutely no problems with 6.1 but i wanted htc sense too. manilla 2.5 is simply too sluggish for my liking until i get a snapdragon.

No, he's talking about the native WM client. There are lag issues with HTC Messaging as well, but it doesn't sound like that's what he's talking about.

I can confirm that I have the same issue. I don't restore my texts and it still happens after a day or so of texting. It doesn't happen everytime I close a text, but it does happen enough to be annoying. I don't think it happened on Stock, but it has happened to me on every custom ROM I've tried, including the 6.5.3 WiseROMs I've been cooking with Calkulin's kitchen.

glad to hear that others are experiencing the same headache as i am. to clarify, i am using the native WM messaging app and not the HTC messaging app. i hope this is fixed one day.

Yes, im aware. I should have said custom roms with newer sense or manilla. Disable it at home, restart, and see if the issue persists. To me it takes too much resources...

i have this problem too... my solution: use microsoft myphone and archive some of the texts. this issue was really bad when i had over 2000+ messages stored on the phone. Now i keep about 100 on the phone and the rest archived, the speed has picked up quite a bit on the phone end.

I am running Juicy R3 & I had problems until I installed Vit0 SMS-Chat. Shown here also using TouchPal 3.5

http://i361.photobucket.com/albums/o...creen02-14.png

I absolutely LOVE this app (it's one of my favorite apps, I have used it since my Titan days) & get no lag whatever using it, but it took me a while to realize it worked with WM 6.5/sense 2.5. It DID NOT work the first time I installed it (it would receive, but not send so it was useless)

I had given up, but somebody else figured out that SMS-Chat works perfectly as long as you disable the laggy HTC messaging first. This works perfectly, I get no lag at all for texting & use ArcSoft for MMS.

Re: is anyone else annoyed with their messaging?

Yep. Not just messaging, but WM in general is buggy and slow, at least in my opinion. Back on topic, I hate that when you're in a SMS convo texting back and forth, when you close it, it still shows up as new texts. And to clear this, you have to open and close that convo the same number of times as it thinks you have new texts. So, if it thinks you have 10 new texts, you have to open and close that specific convo 10 times. If there is a way around this, please let me know as I haven't found it. Its also slow opening, slow closing, slow switching from portrait to landscape. There are other things I don't like about it that I can't think of now, but continue to use it. Honestly, its not that bad, just frustrating. This is on a stock rom btw.

You must still be running the stock ROM. I hated that issue, but I haven't had it since I switched to 6.5/6.5.3 ROMS. Now as soon as you exit a convo it marks all message inside as read.

I believe there is a cab here (or included in goodthings cab?) I know I had it fixed somehow on the stock ROM. And as Wolf pointed out this isnt an issue on newer ROMs (custom) if you willing to play ball. Honestly the combo of 6.5 with MS 3.5.1 makes for a peppy TP2.

I do like the idea that HTC is going for with Sense and their HTC Messaging application, but think it needs some faster hardware or some tweaking to make it run more efficiently.

Yes, and it takes awhile to restore them if you have alot just be aware.

Re: is anyone else annoyed with their messaging?

I don't have this problem at all with the stock VZW 6.1 ROM. I have tried Mighty ROM and several others and they all exhibit this lag behavior. One of the reasons that I stay with the stock ROM.

As for the read messages not being marked as read, its a bug in the tmail.exe program and there is a cab to fix it. Search Mark SMS Messages as Read Fix.cab

I should add that at this moment i have 2100+ text messages on the phone with no lag.

Honestly I think all HTC needs to do is auto-archive older text messages so they are hidden behind a link like the WM client does when your convo gets too long. That would keep it from having to load so many messages at once. I also don't understand why the cursor is disabled until all the messages are loaded. I could maybe understand why a message couldn't be sent, but you should at least be able to start typing.

If they take care of one or both of those things HTC Messaging would be fine.

Re: is anyone else annoyed with their messaging?

Ok I will search for that fix. However I want to be able to see the entire message I am sending before I send it. Not just the current line. Bugs the heck out of me. Sprint TP2 Stock Rom. Tried Mighty and Elite a little while back with a few bugs I chose not to live with at the time.

So Having this problem and searching took me to this thread. What is described here is exactly the problem I was having with Sense 2.1 enabled (Standard Mightyrom.com). Now however, I've disabled Sense and begun to use the default interface. Problem is, in addition to having a massive slow down, the phone will also freeze on occasion. I've had to hard reset multiple times already. Any thoughts or new developments?

I'm having this issue on Energy (Leo Manila 2.5, WM 6.5.3)

It takes about 1 minute for it to send myself an SMS. Which seems slow to me.

I don't restore or have ANY messages. None, Zip.

Re: is anyone else annoyed with their messaging?

It's a WM6.5 issue. Microsoft changed something with tmail.exe for wm 6.5 that takes a very long time to thread messages whenever a thread is closed. Most 6.1 builds do not have this issue. It's something that you just need to live with for right now, till MS gets around to fixing it in a build. Most people don't seem to bring it up as a problem - and we all know Microsoft floats around places like this, where they can see their latest builds in action. We're doing the free testing for them, you know :p You really think any company can possibly leak that many builds of anything and stay in business?

If anyone was active before WM6.5 - this was a common complaint. All 6.5 ROMs had issues with tmail.exe using lots of CPU when text threads started getting big. Just clear your texts regularly or cope with it. 28015 seemed to be pretty good while I was running that on my TP1 via RZ's kitchen.

I don't have any thread. Zippo. First text message to myself after hard reset with NO text message restore takes 1 minute. I tried sending a Text from email at work and it arrived in a few seconds. So seems outgoing is the issue. I'll test more with my wifes phone when she gets home. It may be confused sending text to myself and adding more delay.

mswlogo 12-18-2009 09:21 PM

Re: is anyone else annoyed with their messaging?

Ok, I just tested bewteen my wifes MotoQ phone and Mine. Takes 8-10 seconds in both directions. No Problem. It was the text to myself that was throwing me off.

When I send a text to myself it takes 1 min and 15 seconds. I think that is a sprint thing.

When I turn off Manila and Text to myself it won't even go out and knows it's me and goes direct to received. My wifes MotoQ does the same thing. So I can't test those environments to myself.

Since I don't text much, the big threads issue is not an issue to me. And I never restore texts.

I have seen even WM 6.1 bog down on my diamond (Stock ROM) with only a few 100 texts. And I had Touch Flow turned off on the diamond. It seems to use some critical resources to store text messages. The whole phone would bog down if too many texts were on it.
