Signal Strength Woes??

Ok, fresh out of the box, I was amazed at how strong the signal strength was on my TP2. SS in my house was always bad, but the fresh TP2 rocked!!

Fast-forward...I unlock & flash. This is when I noticed the difference. Yeah, I didn't touch the Radio, but hell, I swear, SS dropped to pretty crappy. Now, I have worse reception than my old Mogul! Grrrr...

Anyone else experience a drop in SS? Which Radio is working best for you?? I'm about to dive in...

Re: Signal Strength Woes??

I haven't noticed my voice signal get any worse. Definitely less bars, but the sound quality is not an issue. However switching from custom to stock, the internet speed was noticeably slower. I'm eagerly awaiting for Sprint's stock wm6.5 rom to hit... but I don't mind trading a little internet speed for cool custom roms since it hasn't really affected my voice service, at least for now...

Re: Signal Strength Woes??

Just looked at a new TP2. Battery in, set up, signal strength is one bar short of full.

Stock Rom: 1.21.651.3, Radio 1.96WF.

My TP2 is right next to it, and has no bars. This is far from its original performance. No, haven't dropped it, just flashed Mighty, then EnergyROM. Nothing crazy, so it doesn't make much sense.

I'm going to reflash mine to stock & check it out...will post results.

EDIT:

Okay, flashed stock ROM back on. Now I'm getting one bar short of full. WTH!?!? This really isn't supposed to make a difference, but at least graphically (more bars), it does.

I did previously update the PRL, so it did go back to 60652 when I reflashed to stock. But the SS went to crap before I updated (I updated trying to improve SS.)

Oh well ... FWIW ... FTMFW!

Re: Signal Strength Woes??

I haven't noticed a difference on C_Fay 1.1. I still show a perfect signal and the internet seems to be as fast as ever. I even live in a place where Verizon says they don't have coverage. If you type my zip into the VZW website it says that they "currently don't have coverage in that area". As a matter of fact, I have never had a dropped call or a bad voice connecton since I got my TP2.

Re: Signal Strength Woes??

i've had no affect on signal strength or internet speed after flash. one thing you must remember also is that most roms use a 5-bar signal indicator while most stock roms use a 7-bar indicator. 5 bars is max on most custom roms

Right. I thought the same thing. But Mighty, Energy's Leo 28008, and Sprint Stock are all 5 bars, which I just hit briefly. Think I'll stay stock for a little bit...waiting for 6.5 to hit the streets.

Re: Signal Strength Woes??

I had really bad SS at home with my other phones. I got the TP2 and when I got home I was amazed at the SS I had with the stock rom. Of course I unlocked and flashed right away and poof SS dropped. After reading this thread, I flashed back and when I got home I had full bars. Strange. I can't imangine what in the roms I tried are causing this. The last rom I used was Energy's Leo.
