Re: hard spl unlock not working on my replaced phone...

I thought the hard spl unlock is what's needed to be able to install custom ROMs and the thing being paid for was the sim unlocker so you could use a sim card from a US GSM carrier?

only the first use of the hspl is free at any given location. if you get a replacement phone or someone else in your family needs to unlock one, you have to pay for another use unless they whitelist you.

You better hope that they do charge for their work.

At some point a hobby turns into work and if you're not making anything off of it, you'll probably choose to quit doing it.

So would you rather have custom ROMs even if you have to pay for them or not have any?

I don't think most chefs want to put themselves in the situation of selling Microsoft's OS without their permission.

EXACTLY... Clearly he forgot that Microsoft wrote Windows Mobile. lol However, I have and don't mind donating for their work. Where as the HARDSPL pretty much requires donation.

Wake up JimP.

Good point banzaiwolfe. I had forgotten that they're basically hacking a Microsoft OS. Accepting donations is one thing but if they started charging, then MS would probably have to stop them.

While you're burning your bridges consider where you'll be if unlocker guy permanently locks you out of any further downloads. Is it really worth a few dollars?

I don't understand what the big deal. It is clearly documented that if you have a replacement device, you need to contact them with proof and they will provide you with new unlock.

They needed to cover themselves from people selling unlocks on ebay and have been nothing but fair with my experience with them. Have any of you tried contacting them on XDA? That's their main board.

Quoted directly from the unlocker post, "Licensing information: it's like with previous Hard-SPL unlockers - every user gets one free use of the Hard-SPL, further use is subject to paying 3GBP per each device.
however, if you are a private user, you can have other uses free on request if needed, such as using it on a replacement device.
the license is valid forever and all this works as transparently as possible, so for normal users nothing is noticable"

This is a response i got from htc unlocks...

Code:

-- HTC-Unlocks --

Bill Indelicato,

the software is provided as-is with no warranties either express or implied.

If you have security concerns then you should not run the program, simple as that, we provide the service of our own free will under our terms, we are not slaves of the public, the software remains our own.

What I will say is that we don't collect any information that can be used to identify you personally, however, if you're unfortunate enough to live in some despot dictatorship with a government that particularly hates you and also has the power to confiscate your equipment in order to identify you then you could have a problem, but then again, if someone had that much power, I doubt they'll be contacting us to ask if your machine was used to Hard-SPL a device, don't you agree?

either way, it's simple: if you don't trust it, don't use it.

Clearly the person replying is not thinking properly...these concerns only come after using the product. not before...we weren't aware of the raising issue before. We weren't subject to proper terms of the unlocker. Although he/she claims that no information is obtained that may be used to identify me personally...i still must disagree. If he/she has access to the inner workings of the device upon activation then he/she certainly have access to information that is pertinent to my identity including contact info...esn...info on business and personal contacts stored in device...naked pics of my wifey...etc.

Whoever wrote that is an a s s. It sounds like the person whoever wrote it forgot the fact that he/she may feel like she's somebody because of the people in the community like PPC Geeks exist.

Re: hard spl unlock not working on my replaced phone...

i traded my hero for a sprint tp2 that was already unlocked. After always flashing my diamond and pro i just dont trust the new unlocker and will not use it, my phone runs just fine without it. As soon as i got the phone i reflashed stock and relocked it. I can only hope that even tho it was the previous owner who unlocked it that my esn was not compromised.
