The only thing is, is that the HD has a sharper display which seems nice but may not support a lot of applications right now. Aside from anything else, by the time this phone is available for CDMA WinMo 7 will be already out. I plan to use my Diamond for a year, then swap to a WinMo 7 device.

Oh yeah, HD does have the head phone jack if that's really worth waiting a year though."
The only thing that excites the people is the enormous screen size. The only known PPC that has this screen size is the xda flame. The flame is big and bulky plus does not have this kind of specs. With the HD, a new revolution will take place. It's the start. R U gonna be happy with WM7 with 2.8" screen? Looks pointless to me. With a screen size like the HD, HTC will find out if it's worth making this size of a screen by it's sales.

Re: I wanted the Diamond until the Touch HD- much much better IMHO

abovelegit - thanks for your input - I agree brains wise so to speak they are very close - to me what makes it so much better is the LARGER screen - about twice the screen surface area for typing if my old high school math using a right triangle formula is correct.

The larger surface area will really make it much better for me as the keys on my screen keyboard will be much larger so it will be easier for me to type since I don't type that often every day but when I do it will be handy. It will allow me to have a larger keyboard but still see more of what I'm typing at the same time. OK - I'll admit browsing the web, checking my e-mail and everything else will be easier - as I'm approaching that age when many people start to need reading glasses.

The other thing I like is the 1350mah battery like the diamond has without having to be as thick as the diamond needed to be for the CDMA version to have a 1350mah battery.

The standard headphone jack is a little plus.

I don't know if wvga means much to me as I'll have to see how soon applications will be available to take advantage of it and not have compatability issues.

One last thing I like about the HTC Touch HD - Sprint hasn't tainted it yet with a fugly red back

So for me the key items are - thinner, larger screen keyboard, better browsing.

Mainly, The only incompatible apps is the themes. But any other apps should work or somebody will figure this out once it comes out.

Cool Re: I wanted the Diamond until the Touch HD- much much better IMHO

Had my Mogul for over a year now. Took quite a few months to get the GPS running and many more to get the memory issues corrected. The Diamond is a nice incremental upgrade. I would love to wait for the HD but I cannot see continuing the rom dance that I have started with the Mogul.

If there are less immediate bugs in the Diamond, I think the upgrade will be worth it vs waiting another 6 months to a year for the HD. Remember, by then many more phones will be out or pending release and the HD may not be as remarkable as it seems today.

Well, you have to remember, WM7 will have it's own devices, not the Diamond. Hopefully some of these new devices are larger screened, but I personally would be fine with 2.8 inches or 3. The HD will still most likely be running WM6.

Like I said, When the sale of a 4 inch screen is good, HTC might come up with WM7 version. But if not, we're gonna be stuck with the 2.8 incher which most Iphone phanboys laugh about. With the 4 incher, They can't really think of any flaws but just say"it's still MS" which is totally nonsense.
Edit: I did not say that the HD will come with WM7. All i'm saying is that the HD will pave the way to bigger and better screen sizes.

Uh, I don't care what others think about my device, as long as it fits my needs. HTC most likely will build a new device for WM7 because WM7 devices will all have multi-touch. This device may not even make it to CDMA seeing as that will be far from now and CDMA carriers wont want a phone with out dated software.

Let me introduce you to my carrier - Sprint - they don't really like new things. Technology scares them. They don't like bleeding edge technology, they don't like cutting edge technology, and they don't like offering firmware updates to their old technology even when it is being released by them as "new". They don't really like testing equipment before they sell it but they like to hold onto it a very long time before they release it so they can say they were testing it. I was told by a Sprint engineer they had the HTC Diamond in January (they may have had it sooner but he was aware his group had it for testing in January). It took them 9 months to put a red back on it, add some junkware and release it. Granted, it does have a thicker battery to handle the demands of CDMA but I'm pretty sure I could have had any electrical engineer calculate battery life without ever having physically touched the diamond.

Well they did a good job with the Diamond technology wise. I kinda like the backing, and a ROM upgrade should get rid of the theme. By the way, in case I ever need to switch plans, what CDMA provider does like technology?
