touch hd rom backup

Hi, just wondered if anyone has sucessfully backed up a htc hd with a dead touch screen. HTC australia has advised i need to do a master reset, but i know i will lose data in the phone, something i acnt have happen. htc told me they "couldnt help", and told me to find something on the internet to do this, i need all the txt mesgs, word docs, appointment history, and contacts stored in the phone. Although my unit still functions, my unit has stopped responding to input from the screen, meaning im unable to select the activesync option to back it up from my pc. can anyone suggest a method that i can use to copy the rom / data i need from the phone to my pc without requiring input / action from the phone end.
