SMS ringer length

I recently created a new ringer just for SMS messages. The ringer works great and all however I cannot get it to stop.

Is there a way in the registry or anything that would stop the ringer as soon as you read the notification or press a button?

Basically stopping the sound because you know it is there, instead of listening to 30 seconds of "Peanut butter jelly time".

If by any chance there is, would there in fact be one for the vibrate function?
