Enabling external BT GPS for MOgul?
im currently running googlemaps for my mogul and they said their a way to enable gps to lock on location
The steps I followed were... Go into Settings>Connections>Bluetooth and add a new device. It found the GPS and I selected Serial Com Part and hit Next. Then I went to the Com Ports tab and selected the new GPS device and selected COM4 for it. Next I went into >Settings>System>GPS and set the Program COM Port to COM6 and the GPS Hardware COM Port to COM4. When I setup Google Maps, I've tried selecting COM6 or COM4, and also just let it do it automatically via Windows, and they all end in the same result. I may try to load my old copy of Mapopolis to see if it will work. quouted from this link http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-6...gps-mogul.html and i cant even get that to work anyone else have this problem or solution? |
MOST of those ports are use or reserved for other shit...
Do this... In BT settings- Set GPS com port to: COM5 In GPS settings - set program port to: COM3 and hardware port to: COM5 @ 115200 Hope that helps... Also, google maps rocks, but you can either have directions or track your location, not at the same time, but you can switch back and forth instantly... Id try Mapquest's app as that can do live tracking and turn by turn directions with VOICE... I have that on my old bb, dunno if there is a windows mobile version, since i use tomtom... |

You need to look at the pairing instructions for your specific GPS device. It may have a special way to set it in pairing mode then you will have to enter a key usually 0000 to pair it on the mogul.
|
are you saying that you cant get the BT GPS to pair with the phone?
|
i cant enter the com thing with my BT i dont have any gps cab or anyhting installed i just want to get google maps to work for i can track my location

Any other ideas? I'm using the Holux M-1200 as my receiver... ](*,) |
your phone is FOR sure synced with the bt gps from the bt settings menu... and you selected serial port when you connected to it so it uses the virtual serial port?

I have an M-1200 as well (this thing rocks, BTW. Small, stays on my keychain and works great EVEN IN MY POCKET!). After I paired it, I set up a new outgoing port under COM Ports in the Bluetooth settings. Once that was done, I went into the external GPS settings and use the software port to 0 and the hardware port to com5. Now when I use TomTom, I have to tell it to use comm 5 but all other programs, like Google maps, use comm 0. Btw, I haven't been able to find ANY comm ports that are "reserved" by default. There is nothing that could reserve them. |
They arnt being used, it just gives you an error saying th port isnt free... or at least it always does on mine...
|
Ugh...i feel like a noob all over again...
I've tried everything from a configuration standpoint, so let me ask this... For those who have the Holux M-1200, does your orange LED blink or remain solid? |
When the unit is searching for satelites, the light is solid. Once it has found enough satelites to determine your location, the light blinks. Blinking is the normal state.
|
The orange LED is on steady until it gets a GPS lock. Once it has a GPS lock it flashes about every second.

my Holux works great! I use iGuidance 4.0 and it's wonderful.
|
so who here hid their gps under their dash? I tried to put my nokia under my stereo n it could not grab a good sattelite fix so I returned it
|
my friend sticks his in his sunroof and it works great.
|
I carry mine on me, so i can use it when im bored skating biking or walking around, lol
|
mine doesn't seem to like staying connected through BT in iGuidance... anyone had this problem? i'm constantly having to re-pair it... this can be dangerous while driving.

Thats a strait BT GPS issue, with your specific receiver... OR something is interfering with your bt signal (almost impossible)
Sorry i cant help... its such a phone, device and app specific error that it can happen for a million reasons Quote:

Where are you seeing an option in TomTom to tell it which port to use? After I select "Other Bluetooth GPS receiver" as my GPS receiver (I have a Holux m-1200) and I hit continue on the "Please establish a Bluetooth connection..." screen, I get a screen that says: GPS is connected to: COM3: Virtual COM9: RIL on COM6: COM7: 7500 IRDA COM2: Am I supposed to be able to select a different port (Port 5?) on this page? If so, how? |
Forget about my question above - I got it figured out. This is awesome! I wish we had internal GPS but this is a damn good alternative
