I left mine on. Doesn't seem to hurt.

The manual says they can be removed. There is no harm in leaving them there either. I left mine on for about a month, then the left side started peeling up. At that point I just decided to peel them both off.

Oh...I just pulled mine off and the keyboard snapping is MUCH more forcefull. NOICE!
