Windows Live Doesn't work

I can't for the life of me figure out how to get Windows Live email to work. If I either open the program from the Start menu or add an email account through outlook, I get to a sign in page where i can use the search box but nothing else. There is text saying "Sign in to Windows Live" but it's greyed out and I can't click it. The only option under Menu is "about". Any ideas how I can get this to work?
