The 700wx is probably one of the most stable ppc phones out there because Palm did a lot of work with it. The 6800 is still very new and has a lot of potential.
Not to mention the 700wx is running WM5, so it uses less ram in general on that basis alone.

Oddly my 700wx was more unstable than my Mogul. The soft reset (hardware soft reset) is way better on the Mogul compared to the 700wx. I had a silicon case on my 700wx and had to remove the skin, open the battery pack cover and push the button in to force a soft reset if the device was frozen.

Now if they would just make the Mogul screen refresh faster when you slide the phone open or closed.... That's driving me nuts.

I had a 700wx and upgraded to the mogul (6800). And I say upgraded because I love it way more. The camera is way better and the signal strength is much better as well. Not to mention all the other extras. Take the 6800.

THe mogul is the best PPC I've owned. I went from 6600 to 6700 to 6800, and many more before that. Each had their problems, but the Mogul is the best by far. At first I was like wtf when I saw all the little hardware buttons, but now I actually use them all. I even had to install AE button (stroths marketing) to add more functionality.

As someone who had a 700wx and now has the Mogul, I love the Mogul. There are some functions that take some getting used to, like no number pad or keyboard that I can whip out and start dialing on. I also miss not having to pull the phone out of the case to use the keyboard. But I love the looks I get with it, and when people ask and I show them the phone, they just stare. We had some iPhone boys come into work (I work in tech support/IT management), and even they loved it.

good question. although the mogul is not activated, it will still pick up a sprint (or roaming) signal and report signal strength. you could try to place a call and connect to the network, but would get a message that your phone is not activated.

most people are probably looking at how many bars they have. i do not know what the OP is checking. the proper method would be to run a field test on each phone (ive setup treos for customers at work, but ive never owned one and never tried to find out how to do a field test - on the mogul its \windows\fieldtrial.exe) and look at the dbm reading for received signal strength. example: my mogul and Q rssi reporting is flaky by the 'bars', but if you run a field test on each phone you see that the mogul is getting 5-10 dbm better signal than the Q at all times.

'activating' a phone is 2 things - program the device (put the MDN and MSID in) and register the ESN with the telco. this has no effect on the devices ability to connect to the cellular network and report signal strength.
I was baseing my comment on the above info. Like dcd said, even though the Mogul is not activated, it still reports connectivity to the network. I have phoneAlarm installed and the signal percentage generally reads 30% in my house (the wx is about the same right now sidde-by-side). I was hoping the signal would be better. My son has a katana & he gets FULL signal in the house. I don't understand why 2 PPCs get such low signal.

I looked for the field test exe (\windows\fieldtrial.exe), but did not find it. I'll keep looking.

Thank you all for your input. I think I'll call Sprint & activate it and test drive it for a week.

hey man,

change your options in file explorer to show all files, and youll see it. ive seen reports over at pdaphonehome of the mogul getting a noticably higher rssi than 700wx, so you might want to check it out... find out how to do a field test on teh 700wx also.

for reference, im in my basement, which has HORRIBLE sprint signal, and i have -96dbm, which is phenomenal for this environment.

Defintely don't depend on phonealarm for the signal strength. It uses a value out of the registry rather than the RSSI.
