xmlContactsBackup
I never trust ActiveSync to do anything right, so I keep my contacts backed up with xmlContactsBackup. It's a tiny little freeware app that backs up every contact to xml files. You open it up, hit the BACKUP button, select the contacts you want to backup, and it will put each contact in to it's own XML file. Then, if you ever lose your contacts, you just hit the RESTORE button and select the contacts you want to restore. I transferred all my contacts from my xv6700 to my Mogul with this app. Nice simple free app.

Extending this topic a little... Does anyone know of a plug in that will allow me to back up my entire device so that if I perform a hard reset (and restore factory settings) I don't have to re-install everything and re-voice tag?

well
Actually, wideawake and I just backed up my 6700 last night, so I could get widows mobile 6 on it. The thing is, the backup will not go onto windows mobile 6. So I'm basically screwed, lol. But I think the backup program was from ppcwarez.org! (It's called Sprite something, lol)

You can get a free app here that backs up contacts with a few other things. It works great if that's all you need to back up. I use SPB Backup for normal backups as well.

Here is the file that I used. Just perform an activesync connection with your computer. When the activesync screen comes up, there will be an option at the top that says "explore". Click that. Double click My Windows Mobile-Based Device. Then, windows and finally start menu. Unzip the file and put it in this directory. I just deleted the help shortcut out of there. And there you have it. When ever you go into your start menu, it will be right there. You can use PPCPimbackup to backup appointments, call logs, contacts, messages, speed dials, and tasks all at once or one at a time!! Just fantastic. Nothing else needed.
