Mogul CPU power

Okay guys. Are there any sites that have thoroughly tested the performance of the Mogul's processor? I've come across a few reviews that mention that the mogul's cpu is weak and a step backwards. Many mention that the video performance is mediocre at best and very choppy. Is the cpu really that crappy or is it the fact that cpu is too new and apps are not optimized for it yet?

Actually the CPU is pretty fast although not overclockable by current methods. If you have an app that makes use of the special hardware like the ATI imageon GPU such as Core Player 1.1 then the thing will really fly.

Actually, CorePlayer blows chunks on the Mogul and can't compete with 3+ year old phones when it comes to video decoding speed.

Did you change the video decoder in CorePlayer to GDI? If not, then the speed will be horrible because the default one in CorePlayer is the wrong one for the graphics processor in the Mogul. Once you make the change it runs smoothly.

I obviously made the change but it still can't compete with phones like the 650. Simple benchmarking proves that.

Where are these benchmarks? I would like to see them. A lot of apps are not optimized for the qualcomm chipset since the unit is basically new.

I've seen benchmarks where the video decoder is faster than a ppc-6700 and only slightly slower than the hermes. Are the benchmarks you are referring to based off of a stock 650 or oveclocked one? There is no overclocking app for the mogul yet.

Anybody have any links showing some benchmark #'s?

I have found a couple but I can't post them cuz i'm a noob on this forum. They are located on a blog called MyMobile911. It has both '6700-apache vs 6800-mogul' and '8525 vs Kaiser' spb-benchmark's posted.

From what I see the qualcomm msm7xxx chips are actually pretty fast compared to the older ppc's, especially in the graphics dept.

The mogul slightly outperforms the kaiser in graphics 'marks. However the kaiser edges-out the mogul in filesystem.

Hopefully there will be further optimization for these chips with future updates. I want to keep my mogul until there are some higher-res / bigger screen options.

Stock 650. CorePlayer or TCPMP benchmarks. Identical files run from RAM.

do you have benchmarks yourself, hippy hoppy?

Yes. Same exact video played from RAM on the Mogul and the SD card on the Treo:

Treo = about 180%
Mogul = about 130%

Big difference. That's with CorePlayer set to GDI. Thankfully, with GDI the video is tolerable on the Mogul.
