Its all about the coding, and it isn't there yet for the Qualcomm 7500 processor. That thing is much more powerful and when the coding is there we should start to realize it. One of the biggest things that Qualcomm said you should see is that it will be faster when using the radio and playing media because of the 2 processors each handling an individual task unlike most others that will split the CPU time.

I sent a trouble ticket to the CorePlayer support team asking if the will ever fully support the ppc-6800 and its qualcomm 7500 chipset. They replied stating that they do support the phone but do not currently support the hardware acceleration pertaining to the qualcomm chipset; which is why you see that the benchmarks are higher on the treo. They are looking into the situation to see if they will add it to any of their future releases of the software.

that's odd I get 183% for Xvid/Divx which is 200% on my older 6700 and 130% for H264 files where as it was the same speed for the 6700 this is with core player 1.1.2 using files encoded at 320x240 360kbit and 44khz audio full stereo using codecs mentioned.

130% for H.264 files is awful. That's the problem.

i got 200% on h.264 in coreplayer 1.1. ripped a movie courtesy dvdfab

What do you get on an overclocked 6700 or a 755p for the same clip?

Machina2o2 07-13-2007 01:38 AM

130% is perfectly fine especially for AVC video at 360kbps I noticed your video is only 220kbps so im not sure why your getting less than stellar performance so far im extremely satisfied on the Mogul performance overall.
For those jumping on the bandwagon I recommend using PSPvideo9 (google it) to do the encoding using the settings i have to get smooth and crispy video playback.

Again, compare the numbers to an overclocked 6700 or a 755p.

Until the hardware acceleration is utilized on the Mogul, the benchmarks are going to be worse than other lower end or older phones which have their hardware acceleration utilized. It doesn't mean that the 6800 hardware is inferior just because the software to utilize its abilities is not yet available.

You can get smooth playback out of the 6800 even with the software limitations. However, if you have special needs or benchmarks are very important to you then the 6800 might not be the right device for you right now.

My point, exactly. Add the defective BT stack to the list and it's clear that the Mogul isn't ready for prime time. It really lends credence to the reports that Sprint was almost ready to delay launching the Mogul until October because of various OS problems. I'm glad that they released it early because we all get to play with it and can see what great possibilities the device has, given that everything gets patched eventually.
