Official BT Headset/BT Stack Thread - Choppy Sound

Hello,

On my 6700 my callers never complained that my volume was fading in and out but I seem to have that issue with the 6800. Is there anything to make it steadier on the 6800?

Thanks

tekie99 06-22-2007 08:04 AM

I am having the same "fading" issue when my phone is paired with my 2006 lexus gs300... everyone kind of fades in and then out, really annoying angry9:

grimloch 06-22-2007 10:22 AM

I'm having the same issue with my Discovery 665. I thought it was an issue with the headset, but maybe it could be the phone?

biglee 06-22-2007 12:06 PM

Mine Jabra 250 is working OK so far.

kybballfan 06-22-2007 02:04 PM

Having the same issue here with my plantronics 645..fading in and out

boe 06-24-2007 12:34 PM

OK - I got a better description from one of my callers - they say I sound choppy - kind of like bad conference room phones that cut off one caller if the other tries to speak.

I've found a place to post issues hopefully for HTC to see - http://www.htcwiki.com/page/HTC+Mogul/thread

I haven't found a support e-mail address for them yet - too bad - it was easy to contact UTSTarcom

boe 06-25-2007 04:31 PM

I just spoke to tech support at HTC - 866-449-8358 - first they asked me if I tried other devices, resetting the device. Then I asked if there was a patch or anything possible for this - they said it he's gotten a lot of calls about this same issue so they are aware of it.

I'd suggest you call 866-449-8358, not to bug them but to let them know if you are having this issue to try and make sure they get enough notification so that the patch comes out sooner than later.

hippity.hoppity 06-25-2007 06:05 PM

I've gotten the same problems. The bluetooth is worthless on the Mogul.

boe 06-26-2007 11:29 AM

I was willing to order a Jabra as some people say they don't have too many problems with them but now I'm seeing them reporting the same issue - AUGHHHH! frustrating!

argov 06-26-2007 11:49 AM

Anyone with s9s with the same problem ?

wowthatisrandom 06-26-2007 11:53 AM

my s9s seem to be working fine no one has complained to me yet

Thanks, just got a pair 8)

Is their a reg change to change the phone to come out from both sides ?

grimloch 06-26-2007 02:52 PM

it seems like there were some people who changed the bluetooth stack on the 6700 from the MS stack to possibly the widcomm stack.. ? Is this possible to do with the 6800?

boe 06-26-2007 04:17 PM

Anyone else call HTC yet? If so was there answer the same one they gave me or were they able to assist in any way?

flipside 06-26-2007 05:14 PM

My jawbone is awesome.. No fading, and I can get about 50 feet away before any breakups

boe 06-26-2007 05:19 PM

Are you sure it is great? It may be but since most people sound like they are talking about the sound at their end, it is hard to tell if you've verified with callers on long calls that you sound good to them at all times. Perhaps it is some of our phones, perhaps it is an inconsistency of another kind but we are getting very conflicting reports from people who have the same phone and the same headsets as to whether they work well or not. All the people who say they don't work well are referring to how callers perceive their calls made from the 6800 whereas many that say their headsets work great seem to concentrate on how callers sound to them on the 6800 which are two different htings?

Again your headset may work well - not saying that no ones works well - there are just a lot of people also experiencing the choppy complaints from people they call so it'd be great if we could find any commonality between those of us having an issue and those of us who are having good luck with their BT.

Slamchez 06-26-2007 07:51 PM

Was wondering if anyone has had any expirience with Motorola headsets yet. Particularly the H500 as thats what I have.

Maybe if people could check their devices for some kind of hardware revision or maybe some sort of consistency with a certain set of serial numbers we could start to see a pattern of some kind?

boe 06-26-2007 09:20 PM

My phone info -

SN: 718FC12XXX

Rom Date 5/22/07

Does not work properly with Plantronics 650, 655 (tried two) and one other model I forgot to write down.

Pibe38 06-26-2007 10:04 PM

boe I hope you don't mind me making this the official BT headset thread.

jgctx 06-26-2007 11:19 PM

so the bluetooth on the 6800 is crap? I am expecting mine in a day and that is not good. That is not what I wanted to hear.....

LOL - you guys can do anything you like!

Slamchez 06-26-2007 11:32 PM

Thanks for the info boe.

I just read an article on rcrnews and it seems that replnishment orders for the Mogul are coming from both HTC and UTStarcom. (need to PM the link to someone to post it here) I'm wondering of theres anyway to tell the difference.

budney 06-26-2007 11:37 PM

I am not sure how long the headset need to be on call for, but I tested my iTech R35 and was clear as a bell with no fading as I left a 1 minute long voicemail on my other line. Also A2DP as been awesome with the pair, unlike the two 6700 I had.

boe 06-27-2007 12:11 AM

I was on the phone for about 3 minutes today - and verified I had no choppy issues, I was stoked thought something had changed and it worked but sure enough about 4-5 minutes into the conversation I got - what did you do, I can barely make out what you are saying? I didn't do anything - it is almost like there is a cache overflow that takes time to build up.

I was sitting at my desk at the time it stopped working correctly, I hadn't turned on any electrical devices, I hadn't turned on the wifi on my phone, I hadn't moved anything between my phone and the headset, I hadn't been zapped by an EMP gun - the BT just stopped working properly during a conversation.

budney 06-27-2007 01:07 AM

I will try my R35 when I call my dad tomorrow. The shortest call with him is ten minutes. :)

B18DelSolT 06-27-2007 04:04 AM

my girlfriends does have a bt prob also, when ever she uses the phone i understand her fine, but once she pus on that headset she is like 4db lower in witch it makes it so much harder to hear her

B18DelSolT 06-27-2007 04:19 AM

just wondering, are any of your headsets bt 2,0? i know my girlfriends isnt and she has a problem, also for all those people that do have probs, do you think if you do the reg hack for stereo will it work?
just throwing some stuff out there :)

allanak 06-27-2007 05:12 AM

How disappointing. I figured the crappy BT on the 6700 would be solved in it's successor. If there was only an EVDO iPhone...

The 655 is 2.0 - I've tested two of them so far - neither works well. Smeg has tested the 665 it doesn't work with his unit and yet there are reports from someone who is using the 665 that it did work - we are waiting for confirmation.

grimloch 06-27-2007 09:45 AM

The Discovery 665 does not work well at all for me, and that's really depressing because oh, how i love this head set!

flipside 06-27-2007 10:00 AM

I thought I would report back.. Over the last 2 days I've hosted 3 hourlong con calls via BT with the jawbone. I asked everyone during and and the end of the calls if I was drooping in/out or fading. Everyone said I sounded normal.

boe 06-27-2007 10:32 AM

Flip, good info - thanks for giving the callers confirmation.

Do you think you could compare your phone info to what I have posted to see if there is a difference?

I have the exact same info as you.

serial 718FC04xxx

boe 06-27-2007 10:43 AM

OK - thanks for checking it out!

I have two more questions if you don't mind - I'm really trying to figure this out as some people with the same headsets are reporting different results -

1. Is all the rom info etc is the same?

2. Do you have activesync - wirelessly going to an exchange server or do you manually sync with outlook through the usb?

landale 06-27-2007 10:53 AM

I had major problems with A2DP on my Mogul when using them with a pair of Motorola S9's. The music would always be choppy with regular skipping when I was out and about. I discovered two problems. First there is no need to change the registry for jointstereo on a WM6 phone since stereo is already supported all it does is make the sound quality worse in my opinion. The big thing I discovered and what I think ultimately fixed my problem was changing the way I placed my phone in my pocket. I always used to put my Mogul in my pocket face side out but since I started putting it face side in the music skipping has stopped. Maybe the bluetooth receiver is on the back and is extra sensitive I don't know but whether or not this is really what fixed my problem I am very happy again with my Mogul and my S9's. :)

flipside 06-27-2007 10:57 AM

1) yes

2) I dont sync with an exchange server.. I only use gmail when I'm away.

hippity.hoppity 06-27-2007 11:01 AM

The BT choppiness has nothing to do with A2DP.

boe 06-27-2007 11:09 AM

Flip - good info.

If anyone here is having luck with your BT and your callers aren't having issues with you sounding choppy - could you please state if you are using an exchange activesync connection?

Thanks

I never said it did. I just was saying that I have issues with the bluetooth myself when using A2DP. I never said what I did would fix the problems others had just that it fixed mine. I am no bluetooth expert but if blocked bluetooth reception was a problem for me I figured it might be causing problems for others.

dukoolio 06-27-2007 01:13 PM

Chiming in...

My bluetooth performance is horrible. I cannot stand people saying "What?" more than a few times in a conversation and therefore have not had many in the car lately. hehe.

I am using Push email through Exchange for the record.
