Comm Manager - I need a better one than the 6800 stock!

The one that comes with the 6800 is so PPC 6700 AKU2.0. Anyone have newer ones that work? I tired a few and I keep getting permissions issues.

Thx!

colonel 06-21-2007 05:51 PM

Which one is it? Try the comm manager from the HTC Touch.

rycelover 06-21-2007 05:55 PM

how can i change the comm manager - i really like the latest one BigJ has in his reloaded rom. I presume it's the same one as the Touch. Do I just find the comm mgr exe file and drop it into /windows?

There are some files uploaded for the Artemis here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311448

I hate quoting myself in a thread, but, yes, all you have to do is grab the commmanager file and drop the cab and install it. After resetting, give it a few seconds to run - when I pressed the hardbutton after reset and nothing happened for about 20 seconds, then just as I was about to restore a backup, the comm manager popped up and it is now working fine.

flipside 06-21-2007 07:51 PM

ryce.. Did you do anything special to get the comm manager to run? I dl'd theone from your link.

I'm running into the same problems as dmack. It keeps telling me I dont have permission.

dmackdaddy 06-21-2007 08:27 PM

Nice! I got the new dialer and comm manager installed.

flipside 06-21-2007 08:34 PM

ok wtf am I doing wrong here..

Copied over to the phone.. ran the cab.. tells me I don't have permission.. reset and it's still the old comm manager..

reset.. ran the cab again, tells me I don't have permission.. rinse lather repeat..

dmackdaddy 06-21-2007 08:48 PM

This is the one that worked for me:

I did nothing special. DL the files from the xda link that I posted and ran the cab from the Mogul - at first I tried running the cab from the miniSD card and i got an error, then i moved the cab onto main memory and ran it and it went well. After a soft reset, it took about 20 seconds to come up and everything is fine now.

I was also able to install the Touch dialer as well.

are you running the cab from the miniSD card or from the ppc directly? I had success running it from the PPC rather than the sd card.

dmackdaddy 06-21-2007 09:09 PM

I used this one:
http://rapidshare.com/files/36625900...nager.cab.html

As with most cabs, I install from my SD Card.

flipside 06-21-2007 09:30 PM

I'm using the same file. I tried to install right from the phone, and not the SD card. The phone skin installed without a problem.. The Comm manager keeps giving me permission errors..

I moved the file to the SD card and I'm still getting the same permission errors..

dmackdaddy, did you do the Unlock registry hack from the registry thread? It may be why some other users cannot install it.

I thought so... glad to be able to help.

hippity.hoppity 06-21-2007 11:25 PM

Just got the phone today and have done these two mods, along with a bunch of other ones. Working great.

dmackdaddy 06-22-2007 12:15 AM

Yes, I did :)

H1 06-22-2007 12:39 AM

can someone point me to where/how to unlock the registry?

Pibe38 06-22-2007 01:11 AM

Check the FAQs sticky, there's a link to a thread (that should also be on this page) with all the registry hacks available...

Pibe38 06-22-2007 06:22 AM

I've installed the Comm Manager, the Dialer skin and the Today theme... very, very nice!

Sprintdaddy 06-22-2007 07:22 AM

I can't DL the file, something about limits exceeded.

flipside 06-22-2007 07:47 AM

See the link 3rd post down from rycelover.. You should be able to get them there. All the links just worked for me

kybballfan 06-22-2007 09:57 AM

Anyone notice when you close the comm manager sometimes activesync pops up? This is a tad annoying. FYI I am connected to exchange server via mail2web..

Have not noticed this, however, I have not used it too much yet.

I can confirm that this has happened to me with the new HTC Touch comm manager.

stearic 06-22-2007 09:49 PM

So just to be perfectly clear, we have to do the unlock registry hack to be able to use the comm manager?

rycelover 06-22-2007 10:57 PM

I don't know about others, but I installed the Touch comm manager I linked above without performing the unlock hack.

Pibe38 06-22-2007 11:52 PM

Ok... so I experienced the AS popping up after closing the Comm Manager, however, this was not happening so I did some testing.

I performed a soft reset and when I accessed the Comm Manager via the hardware button and then closed it with the harware OK button AS did NOT pop up, just like when I had posted before.

Now, I started experiencing this bug just after I went into the AS settings. But before I went into the AS settings, AS was not popping up.

Can anyone confirm this?

Also anyone know the differences between the 2 files out there for the Comm Manager?

There's By Boto file on THIS post. Now I think this is an older file because it is quoted from THISpost. And on the second post the file name is mfrazzz comm manager and it says it's newer... also that post was edited after the last edit from the first one.

I say this because quotes do not update real time, so if the original post (second link) was updated, the quoted post (first link) would have not been updated.

So which one do you have? Do you know the differences? Any input?

draghn 06-24-2007 01:45 AM

I installed the comm manager and the dialer. I did have to unlock the phone using the registry modifications explained in the reg thread linked from the FAQ sticky. They do load slightly slower than the stock, but not too much slower. They are nice.

I installed the comm manager from dmackdaddy's post:

I was getting the same "system permissions" error even after doing the app unlock reg hacks and installing directly from the device (not SD). The problem was that the existing comm manager was running in the back ground. I used MemMaid's process viewer to kill it and it installed fine.

This should resolve all the possible reasons this app won't install on the 6800. I also used the one by_boto one.

Pibe38 06-25-2007 01:28 AM

Anyone have a clue with my Comm Manager looks like this...

http://home.cfl.rr.com/pibe38/PPC/Mo...nager_Font.jpg

When it should look like this?

http://home.cfl.rr.com/pibe38/PPC/Mo...mm_Manager.jpg

I have tried both available CABs and I could have sworn it displayed fine before.

I'm thinking it could be an issue with having both the dialer and the comm manager from the HTC Touch since the text on the comm manager looks a lot like the one from the dialer...

http://home.cfl.rr.com/pibe38/PPC/Mogul_Dialer.jpg

Pibe38 06-25-2007 02:21 PM

Well I hard reset, restored to a backup before installing all the HTC Touch plugins, and then installed the HTC Touch plugins in this order...

1.- Comm Manager
2.- Dialer
3.- Today plugin
4.- Spb Mobile Shell

And as of right now, my Comm Manager is back to normal. It was probably a corrupted install or something like that. I also decided to actually close ActiveSync while I ran the HTC Touch's CABs... just in case!

Pibe38 06-25-2007 04:59 PM

Well I'll be darned... I checked the Comm Manager after each install and everything was ok, then I started fixing my settings and everything, I opened the comm manager and found THIS!

http://home.cfl.rr.com/pibe38/PPC/Mo...ager_Font2.jpg

It's not as bad as the other one, but WTH is going on and how do I fix it?

H1 06-25-2007 06:04 PM

What was the last thing you installed?

Pibe38 06-25-2007 06:12 PM

Palringo. But I checked the comm manager after it... that's what I don't get.

Pibe38 06-25-2007 11:54 PM

I can't believe I did not remember this... WeatherPanel IS to blame. If anyone had a WM Treo, you may remember what happens when you use the Default theme and then place a call... that's right, you get the blocky text from my first issue, it's just smaller and that's why I did not see the resemblance.

On the second time, it uses another font from WP's default theme as well... I guess it was random which one was picked.

Just remove both TTF files from the Marsware\WeatherPanel\Themes\Default folder and the text will go back to normal!!!

Thanks for a user at XDA for remind me of this!

boe 06-26-2007 05:01 PM

I think this was a worthwhile install - I felt like something had been taken away when I went from WM5AKU 3.5 to WM6 - now it has been restored :)

Cool, mine is doing the same thing. Which TTF files did you remove from the theme?

Pibe38 06-26-2007 09:45 PM

There's only 2, remove them both... they are Pixel.TTF and BRADHITC.TTF

Pibe38 06-30-2007 12:49 AM

Anyone having problems using the comm manager to turn on BT? I get a loading icon that never finishes, soft reset, and headset does not connect. Then I delete the headset profile and when I try to add it again it says the password is incorrect... so after another soft reset I can finally add the headset again.

Turning BT by going to Settings - Connection - BT works fine and instantly.
