Sprint 6800 Delayed...

I will ask Mike to ban the first person to post off topic on this new thread.

If you don't know why the first thread was locked, you don't care... if you do know, then you know what NOT to do.

I mean seriously people...

So anyway, cliff notes:

The 6800 was obviously not released on May 14th. We don't know when it'll be released, it could be as soon as June/July or some other rumors say October.

The possible reasons for the delay are WM6 and Rev. A.

Discuss...

Phi87 05-17-2007 09:17 PM

someone on the sprintusers said that they demo-ed a 6800 in a sprint store last week. there seems to be some consensus that it will be out on sprint in June. Anyone know anything else?

xholmezx78 05-18-2007 08:24 AM

I have now been to several Sprint stores in my area, and they are all quoting me with in 30 days of yesterdays date 05/18/07

Phi87 05-18-2007 10:33 AM

I haven't been out in front of a sprint product launch in a long time. Does the product typically appear in stores first or on the web first.

Pibe38 05-18-2007 10:37 AM

It depends, sometimes they actually show up first on the business website and shortly after the consumer site and stores.

jamesus 05-18-2007 10:48 AM

Some members on pdaphonehome are posting June 18th as a release date.

Now, I take this with a grain of salt, but it seems to be launching with WM6 with RevA upgradeable in the future...

shivers 05-18-2007 11:16 AM

WM6 at launch with RevA in the future makes sense to get the device out now. I'll keep my fingers crossed for June 18th.

phyrebird 05-18-2007 11:42 AM

Ran into an old friend that works at a Sprint store, and she copped to the WM6 upgrade delay, saying that the phone was pretty buggy anyway. She doesn't have a date, but said, and I quote, "It'll be late June or early July... corporate wants to beat the iPhone."

Thought that might be helpful.

I am not surprised by corporate wanting to beat the iPhone due to the loyalty that Apple enjoys from quite a few people.

I hope that WM6 helps to remove most of the bugs that a WM5 version of it would have. My 6700 has some annoying tendencies that would be nice to fix.

You're really optimistic, considering the producer of the OS.

Microsoft has the tendancy to fix 1/2 the number of annoyances of prior versions, and then adding twice the amount into the new release.

Indeed, but these won't be bugs that are added. These will be "features". ;)

Perasite 05-19-2007 12:29 PM

And the iPhone is launching on June 11th, so June 18th will not beat it to market. Way to go Sprint, you can't even get a simple launch date right.

Here is what was just posted over at PDAphoneHome:

A buddy of mine that works for Sprint just called me because he saw the SKU for the PPC6800 in the system for $549.99. Anywho, he decided to see if it was available anywhere in the nation, and 1, repeat 1 store has 1- store #413 in IL!! Call any Sprint store to check that availability- I didn't believe my buddy and called another store, and sure enough, they were able to see that store #413 had it, but had no idea where it was!!

Don't know nut'n more.....just passing on information for those adventurous souls willing / motivated to confirm.....or just for those inquiring minds who want to know...

sledgie 05-20-2007 02:17 AM

I see you are up to your old tricks again over there, torturing poor souls.

speaking of souls, I'm starting to think Sprint is the devil and the 6800 is the mark of the beast!

sku# would be helpful BUT I still see it coming near oct. had sprint wanted it out by the time the iphone gets here, they'd have stocked up warehouse after warehouse and gotten sprint employees educated on the device by now, and on wm6. not to mention they'd be getting their business people to go around and start taking orders... hasn't happened yet, has it? no chance of june, imo.

colonel 05-20-2007 03:32 AM

Not to stoke the coals, but are Sprint people educated on any device really?

sledgie 05-20-2007 06:48 AM

Blasphemer!

I have heard some rumors of "Sprint people that know about the phone they are selling," but I am not sure whether or not I can believe it.

But unfortunately, it runs across all businesses. Yesterday, a local company by the name of Grande Communications had an event with free food and soda while marketing their cable-based services. One of the reps tried to get me to sign up with their Eight-point-oh Megbyte (yes, megbyte, not megabit and not even megabyte... the a was lacking) and 512 service.

He asked what I had with time warner and I told him 7mbits down and 384kbits up and then he asked how much I was paying and I told him $29.95/mo. He mentioned their special of $19.95/yr. for their service and I was intrigued. I went to sign up and figured out that it was only 6Mbit down and 384kbits up for their $19.95 service. I still decided to try it and received a $20 gift card to a local grocery store. I also entered in a raffle and won a DVD recorder, so no complaints there. :)

But I was just highlighting that issue since I have run into people who sell something that they do not know much about. I have noticed it mostly in technology-based businesses, although due to my lack of knowledge in cars, a person selling me a service or part could barely know more than I do, but I may be swayed by them since they are a representative of the company they work for and I would hope that they knew what they are selling.

The bottom line is: People often do not know everything about a product, or product they sell or service.

colonel 05-20-2007 05:36 PM

Oh, I agree. That comment was mostly in jest. I know full well that there are people who work at Sprint that do know what they are talking about and some of them are here in the forums. I was just poking fun at the rest of the employees who are as tech savvy as my grandma. It is not their fault that they are not complete nerds like we are. Unfortunately, the company they work for puts them in the position of trying to answer questions that they have no clue about.

Torx 05-21-2007 05:26 AM

went to the sprint store the other day to activate..
my tech said "this summer", and another tech agreed and kinda jumped in the conversation.. i even mentioned "october", and they disagreed..

so who knows..

B18DelSolT 05-21-2007 05:54 AM

ehh i went to the store yesturday and the store rep said june just dont know the exact date for june. but they know just as much as we all do, some even less. it can all change at the last minute.

PPC6700Man 05-21-2007 05:04 PM

Well June is around the corner with July fallowing shortly after so we'll just haft to wait and see. I have the money for this so i'm ready for day 1. And just to add to the chaos.. I've heard June, July, October, September so it's all up in the air. I think they should worry about putting EVDO in all areas before they worry about Rev A. I dont even have EVDO so i'm waiting for nothing!

Ah, I should have picked up that it was in jest, but staying up late puts me in a "blah" mode where I see everything black and white. Quite true though about how not everybody is a nerd, but unfortunately Sprint does not give their employees the proper training in most circumstances.

I stopped an official Sprint store in our mall the other day and just more for fun than any real expectation of discovering anything new....I asked about the 6800. One rep saw it on a sheet of releases at sometime but didn't know anything about it. Another new a little about it and that it had been delay. I asked if it would have Rev A when first released...."Sure it will, because you know you cannot software upgrade a phone to run on Rev A". I then explained that if the radio in the phone supports Rev A it can be software enabled and disabled. He said he never knew that. I explained the reason I asked was that they never enabled the 6600's EVDO radio as promised when it was first released. He was insistent that the 6600 never had an EVDO radio because Sprint wouldn't do that to their customers. When I shared him what really happened, he called over all the other workers (the store was dead) and had me repeat....errrr...train all the rest of them of everything I just explained to him.

Needless to say I didn't walk out of the store with any new information, but the reps did.

You know Hobbes - You shouldn't feed the animals

I spoke with a Sprint Support rep today who also couldn't give me any more information other than, yes it was supposed to come out, but it is delayed (So nothing new).

Heh, nothing new. I went into Tmobile last week to find out about the crappy wing (I am more interested in the form factor than the shitty specs); anyway, the girl asked me why I didn't want a Dash (considering its EOL, I didn't really explain myself), I said the only good thing the dash has is the WM6 update... <blink blink> "the wha?" An update to make the operating system run better... "oh, my brother does that stuff for me"... I swear I could hear crickets when I tried to explain. My girlfriend thinks I shouldn't even speak to REPS at any store because I end up frustrated when I leave.

I am sure everyone on these forums have similar stories to share.

joeytmann 05-22-2007 10:37 AM

I usually just say I want X phone, don't give me the sales pitch. Just setup the phone and tell me how much. Maybe not that short, but along those lines.

Qualasia 05-22-2007 05:29 PM

Delayed confirmed

I spoke to Sprint Corporate today (Forsee's office) the 6800 is definitely postponed currently until October. I'm sure you've all seen it/heard from others but I heard right from the head guys office. :) And the delay is due to them wanting to put WM6 on the launch product.

I'm just a lurker though so don't pay me no mind!

The wing is the worst ppc phone i have ever seen. LOL
201mhz processor WTF is that. phone is going to be slow and lagy even with WM6.
Also i saw a video and the free program memory was 14mb and that was right out the box.

Thats all something that we all know. The sad thing is that no one at sprint even knows about the phone. so they could have told you that and be wrong, or they could be right.

Just saw this on www.Pdaphonehome.com Hope its true, but wont get my hopes up

I just played with the 6800 for a whole 15 minutes at a Las Vegas trade show at the Sprint booth. WM6 but Rev 0 only. In the ##run# screen, it says Windows Mobile 5.2.1xxx. According to the booth person, Rev A update would be available through a push update with no exact date. They did say a release date of June 18th.

The Sprint booth people were also carrying the Blackberry 880x for Sprint.

Here is the link to the page.

It truely is the biggest piece of ISH ever, however, I wanted to feel it to get an idea of what the 6800 was going to be like. :) Pssh, only thing TMO ever got LUCKY with is the Sidekick and the Dash... other than that... its a big bucket of AIDS.

Goes with what I've heard as well... however, things can always get pushed back. I do believe Sprint is planning to release MID-June, now if that actually happens remains to be seen. Its all a matter of any programming snags.

6800 Delay...

Well Mr. Forsee's person called me back after I had gone back and forth with her, she had no clue about the 6800. So about 4 hours later she calls me back and suddenly has all the information on it, that is coming but was pushed out until October due to wanting to launch with WM6, so I'd have to think that's pretty secure information. While it won't help me (my current "flip" phone is breaking apart) those that can wait should. If I coudl wait 5 months for a new phone I'd wait for it. But alas, I can't. Cingular service in my area stinks, and Tmobile is iffy, so I'm going to have to break down and buy a sprint phone maybe a cheapy until then.

Ebay a cheapy... so you can still get a discount if you are due one in June-October. (They also might try to tell you that you aren't due for a rebate because you did an ESN swap, this is a complete lie and you tell them the last device was not given a discount, I have heard of them doing this on several occassions, they tried it once with me when I got my 700p.)

I have heard the 6800 might be offered as a SERO phone as well, the 755p has so I can't see why not on this one.

UTSAFTW 05-24-2007 05:42 AM

A user over at Sprint Users by the name of "CommissoDesign" and works for Radio Shack has this spec sheet for the "Mogul" that he got within the past 12 hours or so.

http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/8...1062040bw6.jpg

http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/sho...6&postcount=12

It looks like the 6800/Titan/Mogul is on-track for 6/18.

I'm still confused as to which name Sprint will go with.

signal34 05-24-2007 09:09 AM

Just as a side note, as I was doing some searching for more info regarding the 6800/Titan/Mogul, I did find something interesting.....

Apparently there is also a known virus named Mogul.6800, so maybe this phone is going to do much more harm than good when/if it finally comes to market.

colonel 05-24-2007 11:27 AM

Um, sorry to point some things out, but are you sure this is the 6800? Just from the spec sheet there are some strange listings.

1. Display: color display, external color display, external caller ID

2. Multi-Language

Both of these seem to point to a flip phone of some sort. I know these specs are vague and could be wrong. Does anyone have the similar spec sheet for the 6700?

Also, no mention of Windows Mobile, touch screen, keyboard?

Just pointing out my observations.
