Alltel and HTC to release Windows Mobile 6.1 with GPS
 

Alltel has been hard at work getting GPS as well as the carrier specific Alltel apps released and it's creeping up to that magical release date. Here are some screenshots posted from the device showing Alltel navigation as well as the 6.1 information.

Thank God someone has some information on this crap. I was getting fed up with the wait. Like seriously, how long has the Sprint crowd had it? :angry7:

While I am dismayed at how long it has taken alltel to get up to speed, I have high hopes for this release and I am glad to see there is work being done.

Any ideas on when this may launch?

Cool beans. I probably will not flash since I got GPS unlocked and am running nueROM3 but I'm glad to see it.

His hacks worked excellent and not a problem at all, Just had to *228 (3) my phone and all was fine. Just did his newsest gps faster connect and it is second to none. THANKS Man

Wonderful news..... but WHEN???

Why is Alltel almost always LAST in upgrading software? There HAS to be a reason right?

I read, I think in PPCGeeks somewhere, that most of the carriers let the users debug the software, but Alltel goes through fairly rigorous testing before releasing a new ROM. FWIW.

My contact at Alltel says Wednesday of next week (10/8 ) for release of 6.1 for Alltel.

Alltel does have a more rigorous process for testing the software, plus keep in mind that they also has about a 1/3 of the employees of Verizon. Less people to do the testing.

10/8 hopefully they are correct. Wonder if it will be better then the ROM that I am using.

I hope its good. I cant find a download anywhere for a newer stock ROM than the old beast im using(2.14.671.3 dated 8/20/07)

I have Alltel and have been running a DCD rom with GPS seems like forever...recently started using NueRom3 and I can't understand why anybody would want to use a stock ROM with all the bloatware and crap on it. The custom roms are soooo much better...I doubt even a radio 'upgrade' from Alltel would be much improvement over whats out there. Shadow-tech's tweaks for aGPS is phenomenal...this device is darn near perfect now with NueRom3...too bad it isn't like this outta the box!

I have been following this site, calling alltel, and htc for a while. As of today htc claims alltel got the ppc6800 6.1 rom update yesterday. Two Alltel reps told me they thought it was out yesterday but as of yet noone can find the download link. Maybe if some more people call they will get on posting it sooner.

I called an Alltel rep yesterday- "tech support" (if that can really be a justified title), and I asked her about the 6.1 upgrade- she told me to please hold.

A few minutes later she says: "My tech guy said that all you have to do is a "Google search" for the update...." ](*,)

I was so fustrated by this silly answer, that I just hung up on her. God forgive me, but 'come on Alltel!!

Oh, It might also help to call 1-800-alltel1 and get tech support. Then ask for advanced tech support(no one else seems to be able to help). If we bug them enough maybe they will get on it.

Couldn't find the feather and now htc is saying alltel is full of bs. They haven't heard anything about it and after another wild goose chase is seems we are doomed to wait it out and we still have no clear answers on how long. I wish alltel would get their sh!t together. Please join me in wasting their time as they have wasted ours and continue to call.

Jville it depends on the site you go to, as i norm go to the HTC site. for my updates. i have now bookmarked it to chk back...

For those of you wondering why some of us are excited and/or waiting for this update, this update is not just about the GPS.

It is about GPS to a degree, but let's not forget threaded SMS (no good 6.0 solutions), a ROM for alltel that provides great MMS (no solution for 6.1 that I know of), and just all around improvements.

I've done the mods and all to my phone, but after all these additions and tweaks to get around alltel in order to get a better experience, I come to find myself back on 6.0 because the 6.1 ROMs, while great in their own right, just didn't seem to be as functional for me.

That's why I am excited, and venture to say others as well. I just wish Alltel and HTC would supply some info on this release, I think they at could atleast do that to ease the wait.

just saw that u updated ur post.

u need to make a new thread with this in the titan upgrade section. title it it something like: ALLTEL WM 6.1 finally HERE!!

also post some info that you know about it. if u dont im gonna after i flash it but i think u should get the credit.

Just flashed mine tonight and everything works. Love thw MMS/SMS plus GPS. Go for it guys you'll love it.
