i have a htc6800/mogul from qwest and i want to unlock it so i can use it with T-moble and need a IMEI number by pushing *#06# but it dont work for some reason.

Not going to happen. Qwest (and your mogul) use CDMA, T-Mobile uses GSM. The two technologies are incompatible. Even if you had the IMEI number you wouldn't be able to make the phone work on T-Mobile.

For other carriers like Sprint? Probably. GSM will not work though as the antenna is designed for CDMA for one.

And the chief differences in unlocking both types of radios are:

1) CDMA devices have no SIM cards as they're activated by ESN only, but the only way to unlock a CDMA PDA is to HSPL for custom ROMs.

2)GSM devices use SIM cards as opposed to CDMA devices. Those are the ones you unlock in however way you want to use with any SIM card.

before you do anything to your phone you have to realize cdma and gsm are totally different. that's the first step in moddin gyour phone.
