Help with Internet Sharing

I am running No2Chem 5066. I used internet sharing once before and it worked fine. However now i tried to do it but no go. When i bring up Internet Sharing i have connection is USB network is Phone as Modem. I hit connect and it says check USB cable connection.

Whenever i plug my phone in activesync starts i read you need to cancel or kill activesync how do i do this? sorry do i just Stop it?
Also a screen pops up Connected to USB status connected and i have the option to disconnect or hide status.

Any suggestions
