Answering calls soft-key + hard key issues

I have experimented with different dialers on and off, and notice that whenever I have another dialer installed, the "answer" soft-key and the green "talk" hard key both have trouble answering incoming phone calls. Often times I have to press the key multiple times, and sometimes miss calls even though I'm clicking "answer" over and over again.

Has anyone heard of this behavior, and is there anything that can be done to fix the buttons to make them more sensitive or responsive to clicking - the stock dialer sucks and I really like some of the ones I've installed.

Also looking for help removing the tray icons with the new Sprint ROM (wm6.1) as none of the old solutions seem to work.
