Anti Theft Software

Hello All -

I am looking for suggestions on what type of software I can install on my HTC Mogul that I could remotely access the device in the event it was lost or from theft...

Does anyone have any suggestions, freeware is best!

The information is valuable so I would pay if freeware is not available...

Thanks...

dont let the name fool you its for ppc's too.

There are others too that you can wipe the phone and sd card with the same sms idea. Send a code to phone to basically delete everything on sd and hard reset the device. Dont think of the names of those though. Ive read about several of them on here.

Remote Tracker!

http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-...tetracker.html

In the event that your phone is stolen or misplaced, you can send it commands via SMS, and it will respond with its current GPS coordinates and how much battery life is left. You can do this via SMS or email. By email, it sends you a direct link to it's location on google maps. You can also have the phone call you at a specific number, so you can hear what's going on around it. Or, if you happen to have misplaced the phone, and its on silent or vibrate, you can give it a command to make noise so you can find it. If you don't want anyone getting into it, send a command that forces a soft reset. (If you have a password enabled, this will lock it immediatley after a reboot) Friends can also send a specific command to your phone to request your current location, which requires your approval to send. Overall, very handy... I've seen other programs that you had to pay for, but this is the first freeware version I've seen that does it all.

... yeah, until you realize you left it in your car or something, then you have an empty phone for no reason. I suppose if you are some kind of James Bond super spy that might be necessary, but I'd rather just have it lock itself and tell me where it is. Your average cell phone theif isn't going to get past a 4 digit pin-code that quickly.

i use vito find me; basically all it does is text your phone's coordinates to another phone if you send it a code word. you can also put a PIN on your settings so that if your phone was indeed stolen the thief wouldn't be able to easily block the phone's location from being sent

Yes, I am using it. It works on Sprint CDMA. The carrier doesn't matter, as long as you can receive SMS. I know it says your phone "must have GPS and GSM capabilities", but whoever wrote that is an idiot. You do have to have a data plan if you use the responding via email feature, but thats it.

It would have been less work for you to have not replied. I was using my PPC. It isn't an easy task to track down a cab file, if someone already had it, then they could have just posted it for me. I am not some noob idiot who doesn't know how to use google. Geeze man, what happened to being helpful.

Get a cheap enough battery and I'm sure it will do it all on its own.

Once you configure, its always running in the background. Just set up your password and such and it should be ready to go. You'll find all of the commands in the help tab. Would give more detail but I'm at work right now, sorry.

My apologies, I too was on my PPC, and did not have a cab file handy. I simply responded with a suggestion. Thats what I would do.

Kind of unrelated to this thread... but, are you using the default Internet Explorer? I've never had any issues with this forum, or myspace. I rarely come across a website that I can't use with my PPC. Perhaps this is worthy of its own thread if it turns out to be a common problem.

No worries, I'm sure everyone would agree that drifting off topic every now and then for constructive purposes is a good thing. I'll catch up with you on your new thread.

Does anyone know if the program will initiate a GPS connection if one is not available at the time of tracking?

Also, for those that wanted a cab of the program, here you go [its in a zip archive]
