soft resetting into bootloader?

posted earlier on xda, but i was using my phone as normal this morning (i had soft reset 1 or 2 times earlier) and all of the sudden when i soft reset on psShutXP, it took me into bootloader. odd, but nothing an old exit_BL couldnt fix. well it wouldnt send the commands, but i found out later that once i connect the USB to my computer and it beeps, i can soft reset out of BL. but now its happening EVERY time i soft reset, even running Sprite Backup, when it soft resets, it puts itself into BL. i was running DCD 3.2.2 and i reflashed a clean ROM (and also 3.2.3) and the problem is still arising. everything works fine unless i let the user customizations run. im thinking its a hardware problem, but i havent dropped it or got it wet. any ideas?
