What would happen if after upgrading I need to take the phone in?

For whatever reason, something goes buggy on my USCC PPC6800 and I need to take it in. Would I be SOL since I upgraded it and there seems to be no stock 2.17 ROM floating around? lol.

Always flash to an official ROM before taking your phone in for service. Period.

Yea... Get insurance and make sure that the phone has a good long bath with it connected to the charger. Then you can make the claim that your kid (if you have one) wanted to see it float in the toilet. Don't really throw it in the nuker since that will void the insurance all together.

And since flashing it will void the warranty don't bother trying to say the "The button falling off has nothing to do with what is programmed on the phone" Since they will tell you that you flashed it with modified software and it affects the whole phone.

hmmmmm...you think I can still get insurance after upgrading it? I never thought to get it when I got the phone. mistake on my part but being a noob to upgrading, I didnt think of it. I would think they would check it over first.

usually they won't let you get it at all 30 days after getting your phone, otherwise they might want to see it or just have you answer a test call...

I thought there was a ripped rom floating around somewhere for USC though?

I was able to call and get insurance put on my phone so if something does happen, I have a back up plan.
