Re: Streaming TV

you have to buy a slingbox - it does not have to be the pro (hd) model - some are about $100 - you connect it to your cable (or antenna) and router - if you have a cablebox, an i/r blaster is included - you plug that cable into the slingbox and place the other end near the i/r receiver port of the cablebox

install the software on your pc - it will help (or do) with the config of your router - (i had trouble so slingbox will perform this for you remotely if you have a problem) - the software also has the sling player that you use to watch your tv on your pc

the sling player mobile license fee is $30 for purchase - no recurring fees - the setup is easy - about all i recall is that you enter the 'finderid' - the finderid is the unique address of your slingbox and how the software finds your slingbox - user and admin passwords are possible - the mobile version has several viewing modes, including audio only if you're not in an area with less than great evdo reception - the mobile player can also be set to landscape/fullscreen mode - wifi connections work also

my slingbox is attached to my cablebox - with the dvr - from the pc player software or the mobile player software you can perform all the functions of the cablebox

the limitation i was talking about is that i cannot watch the slingbox on my pc and on my phone at the same time - (you can watch the tv and one sling connection at the same time, but changing a channel on the cable box will obviously change what is viewed on both the tv and the sling connection)

but if you happen to leave the slingplayer connected on your pc when you go to work, and decide you want to yank the connection to your mogul or work pc, you can using the admin password

the pc version of the sling player is available from slingmedia free - so you can install it on as many pcs as you want - or like someone suggested, install it on a usb drive

i live alone so the limitation does not cause problems for me - if someone else were sharing the tv, i would buy a slingbox dedicated for my use

Re: Streaming TV

Ok, I guess I will throw my hat into the ring. This is not a free option, but since people mentioned The Slingbox, I guess I'll mention my method.

I am using the Sony LocationFree Base Station. http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...rtNumber=LFB20

I caught one on clearance from BB for $30. It works well, but the software for our phones is an extra $20

http://www.pocketgear.com/en_US/html...83&sf=48190044

The reason I am not ablke to use ORB is that my DIRECTV HD DVR is not near my home CPU, and Wifey is not hearing me running 50ft of cable just so I can stream TV to my phone. The limitations is the same as the SlingBox of watching one source at a time. And the phone software does not have codes for my Directv box built in. Other than that it works just fine, and absolutely acceptable for $50 if you can find one for cheap.

Also, if you have a PSP, it connects with it flawlessly, and TV looks beautiful on it.
