Threaded SMS (txt) Backup / Restore
Please ignore the 1 post count. I'm actually very good at reading and searching. I've been a member for quite a while, and managed to do just fine so far without any help.
But now I'm stuck. Got a Titan that I upgraded to the new NO2Chem (5059) and I'm having trouble with the threaded SMS. I've got a PIM Backup of my TXTs before I reflashed. When restoring that file onto the new ROM, the only way to do it and have it work correctly is to disable the threaded SMS. If I try to do it with the threaded on, it totally fuxors my conversations. All mine at the bottom or the top, the other persons vice versa, messages not showing up, basically a big pile of crap. How can I take the (non-threaded) SMS backup that I've got and have it properly restore into a threaded environment? I've tried PIM and also tried using Sprite, but it did more than I wanted it to. Thanks, SBB |
Re: Threaded SMS (txt) Backup / Restore
Yeah I need help with that too. Everytime I flash, sometimes it works out and sometimes it does what he says It's so annoying.
I just wanna get this right :-( |
Re: Threaded SMS (txt) Backup / Restore
I'm curious as to the resolutino of this as well. Aren't the texts just stored in a different mail folder under the Windows directory? I remember someone mentioning this when using FunContacts Threaded SMS...

Re: Threaded SMS (txt) Backup / Restore
So after about 6 hours of effin with it, I think I figured it out.
Here's what I did. * Backed up all SMS information via PIM Backup * Flashed phone. * Ate a burrito. * After flash, ensured that threaded SMS was disabled, if not do so and soft reset. * Restored PIM Backup information. * Enabled threaded SMS. * Soft resetededed * Opened TXT messaging and let it build the conversations. This is where I kept getting time after time and things wouldn't work right. The flow of the conversation didn't come up correctly. The next step seems to fix them. * Opened the TXT messaging SENT folder and let it load. After that, when I went to messaging everything was correct. Lemme know if this works for other people. I did a LOT of stuff trying to figure this out and it's slightly possible that you'll have to open up your backup file and do a little reordering in it. I don't think that's the file I ended up restoring, but it could have been and once it started working I wasn't going to mess with it anymore. Bueno Suertes! SBB |

I'm working on getting a burrito. In the meantime, where is the setting that can disable threaded SMS? I'm quite stumped.

Here's a fix I found on xda developers:

I think you need something to wash down the burrito with.

Re: Threaded SMS (txt) Backup / Restore
Registry key edit is how I disabled it. There's also a nueTool for it, but I didn't have it on there at the time.

As far as the efficacy of the procedure, I'm planning on reflashing this weekend and will see if I can't do the whole thing over again. Maybe I'll even take screenshots. Wheeee! |
Re: Threaded SMS (txt) Backup / Restore
how long did it take for the messages to rethread

Re: Threaded SMS (txt) Backup / Restore
I actually have an apache and it does not seem to be rethreading and i tried these steps any clues ... just supposed to open the sent items folder right? and does the inbox show up with no messages in it and it get repopulated once everything rethreads

Re: Threaded SMS (txt) Backup / Restore
I have tried this with several different PIM back up programs, and different registry settings, different patterns, leaving text messaging on/off (in memory,) and having threaded on and off.
No matter what I do, I always get the conversations out of order, with me last... and missing a LOT of texts. going to old-style SMS fixes it, but I wouldn't really call that a fix... |
Re: Threaded SMS (txt) Backup / Restore
i know this thread is old.... but i think i just got it... using pimbackup
*no need to disable threaded, just fire up pimbackup *select only to restore text messages *choose only inbox OR sent (pick one) *go! *go to text messages and watch them sort, wait for it to finish *go back to pimbackup *choose only inbox OR sent (the one you didnt do the first time) *!!!ADD OR IMPORT ONLY NEW MESSAGES!!! *go! *watch your texts sort again |
