downloading new POIs with tomtom..doesnt show up, yet is on card..help

i have tomtom 6 and i used the tom tom plus services to download the latest retail_stores for POIs on my phone. the files downloaded fine to my stirage card. however, when i go to search for a poi, that poi type does not show up in the list, and none of the stores that would be in it can be found.

do i have to install the new POIs somehow before tomtom will see them as POIs? shouldnt it automatically be usable once its downloaded? id appreciate any help you guys could provide...thanks in advance
