I have read some horror stories about installation from people (software causes errors, GPS doesn't work, etc...), is it pretty failsafe? Once installed, can you unistall the .cab to reset the .reg edits?
Just to be clear, you follow the installation instructions and that's it? After it's installed, you can start Live Search, Google Maps, Telenav, etc...and the locks are pretty instantaneous?
Sorry for all the questions :)

I know of no horror stories. Just install the quickgps .cab. The copy the edited .exe to the windows directory with the phone's file explorer. then import the reg edit. You don't have any guarantees of instantaneous locks. If you have aGPS I see no need for this since it is already fast. With standalone gps then this will provide fixes of under 1 minute for me. If you don't like uninstall the program.

Again, not to sound stupid, but I am on a HTC Touch (Sprint) using the stock 6.1 ROM. I don't think it has aGPS (as I don't recall seeing anyone using a Touch mention it). I can typically get pretty decently quick locks (30 seconds or less) outdoors, but indoors is sometimes difficult.

Any idea about the aGPS?

Nope you are on your own with the touch. I don't even know if the software will work well for that phone. Locks indoor will probably not improve. GPS doesn't work well at all indoors.

Thanks again, I think I'll stick clear then.

Appreciate the help.

AGPS can be done using the thread Shadow made for quick GPS (it says Alltel but does any carrier). Just follow the instructions Toxic.

I'll be honest, i get a little skittish when it comes to doing some serious .reg work (especially since i'm not too savvy when it comes to this stuff). I have a feeling i'd do more harm than good, but thanks for the tip anyway :)

You're welcome. It won't kill anything so do it.

On Alltel:

I'm having some trouble with QuickGPS. Previously, the 'download' button would connect, have a progress bar, and then say 'Connection Failed, Please try later'.

I followed these instructions to try and get QuickGPS to work, and now when I try to open QuickGPS I get the error

"The file "QuickGPS" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file."

Multiple reinstallations and recopying the registry file don't do anything different. I can plainly see that the old QuickGPS.exe file is still in Windows, even though I told it to overrite. I used Rosco 2008, on trial right now. Any suggestions to get this program working again?

I am having this same problem with my Sprint TP ported to VZW.

Sounds like you didn't apply the updated .exe to the windows directory
