I have read some horror stories about installation from people (software causes errors, GPS doesn't work, etc...), is it pretty failsafe? Once installed, can you unistall the .cab to reset the .reg edits?
Just to be clear, you follow the installation instructions and that's it? After it's installed, you can start Live Search, Google Maps, Telenav, etc...and the locks are pretty instantaneous?
Sorry for all the questions :)

I know of no horror stories. Just install the quickgps .cab. The copy the edited .exe to the windows directory with the phone's file explorer. then import the reg edit. You don't have any guarantees of instantaneous locks. If you have aGPS I see no need for this since it is already fast. With standalone gps then this will provide fixes of under 1 minute for me. If you don't like uninstall the program.

Again, not to sound stupid, but I am on a HTC Touch (Sprint) using the stock 6.1 ROM. I don't think it has aGPS (as I don't recall seeing anyone using a Touch mention it). I can typically get pretty decently quick locks (30 seconds or less) outdoors, but indoors is sometimes difficult.

Any idea about the aGPS?

Re: I'm looking for HTC QuickGPS

Nope you are on your own with the touch. I don't even know if the software will work well for that phone. Locks indoor will probably not improve. GPS doesn't work well at all indoors.

Thanks again, I think I'll stick clear then.

Appreciate the help.

AGPS can be done using the thread Shadow made for quick GPS (it says Alltel but does any carrier). Just follow the instructions Toxic.

I'll be honest, i get a little skittish when it comes to doing some serious .reg work (especially since i'm not too savvy when it comes to this stuff). I have a feeling i'd do more harm than good, but thanks for the tip anyway :)

On Alltel:

I'm having some trouble with QuickGPS. Previously, the 'download' button would connect, have a progress bar, and then say 'Connection Failed, Please try later'.

I followed these instructions to try and get QuickGPS to work, and now when I try to open QuickGPS I get the error

"The file "QuickGPS" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file."

Multiple reinstallations and recopying the registry file don't do anything different. I can plainly see that the old QuickGPS.exe file is still in Windows, even though I told it to overrite. I used Rosco 2008, on trial right now. Any suggestions to get this program working again?

I am having this same problem with my Sprint TP ported to VZW.

Sounds like you didn't apply the updated .exe to the windows directory

Re: I'm looking for HTC QuickGPS

i installed this on my wifes 6800 from alltel using the steps described above. it seems to download the data but when i go to use the gps it still takes forever to aquire a gps fix and then it gets only 3 or 4 satelites.
anybody got any ideas?

drewcam888 06-20-2009 09:46 AM

Re: I'm looking for HTC QuickGPS

The standalone gps is slow on the titan and you must be outside to get a good signal if any signal. If you have a data plan then look for the alltel agps thread on info on setting it up. Agps should give you locks under 10 seconds.

Re: I'm looking for HTC QuickGPS

so I installed QuickGPS on my 6800. It worked and downloaded. Says VALID TIME 6 Days 23 hours.

Now how the hell do I use it? i have google maps but it doesnt have any GPL option i can find. How do you know how many Satellites you connected to?

drewcam888 06-26-2009 01:35 PM

Re: I'm looking for HTC QuickGPS

Quickgps run automatically. You have to do nothing. If you want to your you satelittle lock number then use htc gps tool or gpsviewer.

motopsyko32 06-26-2009 01:45 PM

Re: I'm looking for HTC QuickGPS

So i upgraded Googlemaps and when i click on "Use GPS" it sits seeking GPS Satellites for about 13 minutes now

ayato 06-26-2009 02:00 PM

Re: I'm looking for HTC QuickGPS

I use GoogleMaps as well. Sometimes I have to run mGpsCmd.exe to get my lock before running GoogleMaps. I am sure I got mGpsCmd from one of the threads here. It lets you see how many sattelites are tracking you and tells you which ones have a lock.

Your location is not on it is in 911 only i bet.

Re: I'm looking for HTC QuickGPS

no that wasnt it. i checked thta. i soft reset and it worked. pickup up 7 satellites. Then i realized this is crap. I am looking for something to replace Sprint Navigation (Like Garmin or TomTom). A turn by turn GPS navigation of sorts that says when to turn without haveing to read the screen. This does not do that (i think).

I get an error when I try to installed the cab. It says not enough system permission.. I'm a big time noob...!

Re: I'm looking for HTC QuickGPS

This cab may not work on the touch pro. If that is the phone you have. Try the cab DCD made for the touch pro. It is on his website.
