is there a definitive answer as to if revA is working or not? with sprints test rom

my apologies if this has been answered before. But after doing some reading earlier, im really confused. :( I read that gps is enabled but rev a is not yet activated. (engadget website) On this forum though, people are posting some pretty nice download and upload speeds. I have also tried the speedtest.net page with the test rom on my mogul, (using wmwifirouter) and have been getting 1200 down and 500 up speeds. My girlfriends mogul without test rom gets 800 down and 90 up. I guess comparing those results kinda answers my own question, but i was hoping somebody here with more experience and knowledge than myself, could give a definitive answer. thanks in advance, and im sorry if this has been answered already.

Yes....Rev.A is working on the new test ROM. Your speed will vary depending on coverage and signal strength. But how many "bars" you have is NOT indicative of your data signal....only voice. You could have 1 bar but a good and strong data signal. That's what it's like for me at home.

EVDO reva was enabled. Download speeds havent improved much, but upload speeds have went from around 100k before upgrade to around 400-500k after. Downloads are still around 1200-1500k for me. My ping times have been chopped in half as well. YOU MUST BE IN AN AREA WITH REVA ENABLED TO SEE DIFFERENCE!!

Also, proof is right there in the pudding from your post, look at your speeds(especially uplink) compared to your girls pre3.16 rom!

Thank you for the reply/answer ebmorgan. I'm in Milwaukee WI, which i was pretty sure has rev a. I guess the test comparisons i did really answered my own question. But like i said, there's so many conflicting reports out there, and being kind of a noob, i didn't know what to believe. Thank goodness ppcgeeks is back up and running again, you guys are the best. Thanks again.

Any reason why I wouldnt be getting Rev A speeds?

Read through most posts in the 3.16 forum and didnt find an answer

Im in Houston and I cant seem to get above 700Kb is there any reason why I wouldnt be getting Rev. A speeds in Houston?

Genjinaro 02-02-2008 12:19 AM

Cell tower traffic most likely... :/

I assume since Houston is a major metro, Rev .A has rolled out there already?

Someone posted a link to a page on sprint's website that shows where Rev A is on a map. I'm sorry I don't have the link but I'm sure with some searching it's out there. I think one time since I've been using 3.16 I have topped 800Kb down but where I noticed it in speed tests was the upload speed. My upload is much faster than what I've read regular EVDO is supposed to be so I'm assuming it is using Rev A but probably just congested. Also I read posts that some people are using this to download "bittorrents" and nonsense like that so it's no wonder my speeds are slower than expected.

  • Supports Quality of Service (QoS). Delivers an enhanced user experience for delay-sensitive applications, including a variety of IP-based services such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and real-time conversational services such as push to talk, video telephony, low-delay gaming and 'instant multimedia' (an extension of push to talk that combines immediate voice with simultaneous delivery of video and pictures).
  • Supports 1xEV-DO Gold Multicast. Enables network operators to provide multimedia services that deliver high-quality video and audio to a large number of users simultaneously. If standards progress permits, the MSM6800 chipset will also support 1xEV-DO Platinum Multicast.
QUALCOMM's MSM6800 solution eliminates the need for applications co-processors to provide a high-performance, power-efficient, single-chip solution that reduces bill-of-materials costs enabling the development of more cost-effective solutions for 1xEV-DO-based wireless devices. The MSM6800 chipset supports leading and next-generation wireless multimedia, including:
  • Camera. Integrated Qcamera digital camera supports up to 4.0 megapixel for album-quality digital images.
  • Video. Qtv support at 30 fps QVGA for crisp, on-demand video and Qcamcorder support at 15 fps QVGA for camcorder-quality movies.

I live in a rural area, when my PPC 6800 isn't 'on line' it sees EV, but as soon as I hook it up to my computer and it goes 'on line' it drops to 1X. I would love to get Rev 0 EVDO. The Alltel tech I talked to said I was in a fringe area for EV service, so I would gladly trade coverage to get EV, or be able to light a fire under Alltel to get them to up-grade more towers in my area.
