Mine actually happened in the background while I was using it! I only realized it was calling out because the data icon changed to 1X, couldn't see the little phone until I minimized out of my ap.

Have you tried Start\Settings\System\Keylock and then select lock all buttons except Power button. It is most likely the case that the phone is held in or your body pressing up against the sent button that is causing the phone to dial and not the phone it self. Even when I had the 6700 apache it was the same thing. Turn on keylock and then select lock all buttons except Power button and the problem will go away.

Pretty sure one of the cases here the guy said he left the phone sitting on his desk and it called someone.
That shouldn't trigger any buttons on accident... |

My phone sometimes calls people (usually the last person called, or latest text message) when it's in its holster, but it only happens when I leave the phone unlocked. Give S2U2 a try, it's a really sweet program that will pretty much make sure you won't make any unwanted accidental calls again.
