White Spots

I recently noticed two white spots on my screen. They're in the lower left hand side of the screen, strange but u can only see them say when the screen is white itself, u can make them out perfectly. Just wondering if anyone else had something like this come up on their phone. Doesnt really bother me but I just dont want something bad to happen to the screen itself. Im kinda debating whether or not to take it into sprint, what do u guys think?

superevilllama 01-15-2008 05:33 PM

Actually... I have the same issue. A single white spot or at least round "brighter" than the rest of the phone area in the lower left area of the screen. It is interesting it is in the same area...

bigfloppydb 01-15-2008 05:44 PM

Me too!

I have those same white spots... I've had them for a few months now, but they haven't gotten worse. I assumed it was because I'm a little rough with my phone (always getting bumped into things in my pocket). Are you rough with your Mogul?

cire001 01-15-2008 05:50 PM

same spots here ..same place.. and yeah im a little rough with mine.. some times when Im bored we wrestle

i700plus 01-15-2008 05:56 PM

Same Spot here, In the same place. Right on the lower left corner of the screen.

arcanecho 01-15-2008 06:00 PM

Same thing and spot.

Baffles 01-15-2008 06:08 PM

I started getting the spots again. I'm about to call Sprint to get another new phone (I keep sending them back with the spots, cause it's a warranty issue).

arcanecho 01-15-2008 06:08 PM

Try this out.

There is a mobile version, and you can visit the site on your phone and it'll download the version. It didn't work for me, yet it may work for others.

Baffles 01-15-2008 06:18 PM

It's not stuck pixels, just a weird spot in the screen. At least on mine, its only noticable on lighter colored screens and its a section thats a different shade, on darker colors its not notciable.

swirlee 01-15-2008 06:25 PM

Ha. I have the exact same thing on my XV6800, exact same place. It's been there since I got it, though I got it slightly used. Interesting to find out it's a common issue. It's definitely not a stuck pixel. If I were to guess, I'd say that there's either some component under that spot that's applying uneven pressure to the screen (i.e. they designed it a little too tight), or there's a hot component under that spot. My money is on the former.

Baffles 01-15-2008 06:29 PM

I dont know, cause when I get new phones, they develop the problem slowly over time. The hot component theory would make sense in that case.

slowlx 01-15-2008 06:36 PM

Thats what I was thinking, just a hot spot of some sort, but weird how other people are getting them to in the exact spots. Dont think the pixels are messed up, you can see things clearly just under white pages u can make the spots out.

Logan 01-15-2008 07:32 PM

yea man same thing i got three in the same spot

cornish 01-15-2008 07:33 PM

I also found the two white spots a couple of days ago and wasn't sure what it was. It is strange that it is happening to more than just me. I don't feel that I am rough with my mogul. This is where it really gets strange--I have the same two white spots on my work HP tc4400 tablet pc. (in the very same place in the left hand bottom of the screen.) On both the mogul and the tablet you can only really see the spots when the screen is white--strange. (at least it seems more obvious on a white screen.)

u8myfoood 01-15-2008 07:48 PM

i was wondering why the back light in that area was brighter than other areas on the screen!

I believe it is due to a component behind the screen's backlight, placing pressure on that area, i experienced the same thing when i installed the screen on my psp improperly with a small budge underneath it.

I guess all moguls, and 6800s have this flaw?

zrobug 01-15-2008 11:37 PM

Same issue here... Lower left area of the screen. Looks to be a design defect.

freeza 01-16-2008 01:05 AM

same spot, same place. LOL this phone needs a damn recall.

leetsauce 01-16-2008 01:39 AM

I have three of these spots, also in the bottom left quadrant. Initially I assumed it was because my screen always pressed against the back of my leather pouch, but I changed my mind when I noticed a similar spot on my friend's Mogul, which he keeps in his pocket. It's very likely the cause of this is a component behind the screen, like some have mentioned in posts above.

Either way, it doesn't bother me very much. I've grown to live with it now.

ls3mach 01-16-2008 01:49 AM

I have 1 spot, I thought I had read about this before. I just ignore it, I guess I could request another for this issue if something else comes up or it starts bothering me.

wILLk0r3 818 01-16-2008 02:15 AM

I have a nickel-sized white spot on my screen in the upper left area of my screen (portrait) that's only noticeable when the screen is black or displaying only dark colors. The center of the spot is the worst and lessens away from the center, it's annoying. It has slightly worsened since it appeared 2 months ago. When the screen craps out, I will go to my local Sprint repair center and have it replaced.

mattman_916 01-16-2008 02:42 AM

Me too!

This must be an HTC issue. I have one as well on my Mogul. I don't think it has anything to do with the software. Keep in mind, this is a mini computer, so it is not going to be perfect. I see it while I am typing this. I am not going to bug Sprint unless the whole screen goes out.

zelet 01-16-2008 08:46 AM

I had three spots on my first Mogul and now after only a couple of weeks one showed up on my second Mogul. Same location... lower left.

esqueue 01-16-2008 08:54 AM

I got three of them too.

cincij 01-16-2008 09:12 AM

Same here. Lower left corder, about 5mm round.

eehrhard 01-16-2008 11:35 AM

I have had 3 phones replaced because of these spots. My current Mogul doesnt have them yet but if I was you guys I would make sprint swap out your phone for one that doesnt have them.

The first time I tried to get my phone swapped out they told me it didnt affect functionality and that there was nothing they could do. After I explained that it does affect functionality and that it was unacceptable for such an expensive phone to have ANY kind of problems so early into my ownership that they needed to replace it and they did after i spoke to the manager. I have had NO problems getting exchanges since then. I just go to ECare first.

iwillfearnoevil 01-16-2008 12:32 PM

how does it affect functionality? i'd say it's more cosmetic. just wondering what arguments you used. anyways i have single spot in bottom left.

Bilybobjef 01-16-2008 12:53 PM

Same thing for me, 3 spots in the lower left. I never knew this problem was so widespread, I wonder if we can get something done about it.

kevxross 01-16-2008 12:56 PM

I've noticed the same thing with mine. It's hardly noticeable and I would never consider actually fighting for a replacement for something so trivial. If it gets worse I might, but jeez, how can something that you almost have to intentionally look for affect the functionality of the device to the point of going through the hassle of fighting for a replacement?

eehrhard 01-16-2008 01:00 PM

I told them that I purchased a $300 phone to be able to watch movies, Surf the web and play games on it as well as using it as a phone. I consider cosmetic to be the casing. If there was a discoloring of the case then maybe that would be cosmetic but white spots degraded the experience I was having with my phone. Does it keep it from working? No but to say its only cosmetic is innaccurate IMO. Its not really any different than if there was a bad pixel or stuck pixel really.

They guy that didnt want to do the exchange actually told me to break the screen and come back. Go figure. Sprint repair people are SO helpful if it cannot be fixed with a hard reset it cant be fixed. I would suggest complaining to ECare or phone tech support first. I will never go into a sprint store to diagnosis a problem again. Only to get my replacement phone that was sent by tech support or ecare.

To each their own. If i have anything for under a month and it does not completely work the way it is supposed to I am going to get it taken care of.

Once I know its there it really begins to bother me so I will always notice it. I have a light backround on my today screen so I would see it every time I looked at my phone.

I take excellent care of all of my electronics and I expect them to work perfectly for me for thier useful lives. I understand wear and tear and all that but this was less than a month when the first couple spots started to appear.

Crappy screens are not acceptable to me.

TrueArsenic 01-16-2008 02:09 PM

I came across a phone the other day with this issue. A customer brought it in and it seems to be kindof like a pixel burn area about the size of an eraser in the bottom left hand corner, yes?

I havn't experienced this issue on my Mogul, however, i know a lot of you have had this issue. I suggest taking it to your local sprint corporate store and doing a warranty swap as this seems to be an issue with the lcd in the phone.

If sprint declines, contact HTC either by Email, or call them. If you Email, find links to similar threads such as these on other forums to help prove your point.

And i agree with eehrhard, crappy screens aren't acceptable.. especially when paying $300+ for a phone.

roguemoog 01-16-2008 02:14 PM

Hah, I just noticed the exact same thing on mine a couple weeks ago. Not sure if it was always there, but it's only noticeable when the screen is white or close to white. Guess it's not just mine!

eehrhard 01-16-2008 02:41 PM

I dont think sprint/htc may even know how big of a problem it is because of lack of complaints. I know when i first went in to get a swap or repair the tech was like "huh?" but i was persistant. I have had less trouble with the other swaps. That may be because they know about it or because I just skipped the sprint store though.

hexonic 01-16-2008 02:57 PM

I actually work as a tech for sprint and i see these phones every day. New 6800s come in like this once in a while so i believe is a defect with the phone itself. Its always in the lower left corner about a centimeter up from the bottom. Generally it has 2 spots almost touching. i believe its because there is a part under the screen gently pressing on it from the back. I've had my phone a little over a month now and it hasn't happened yet but i know it will sooner or later.

Just wanted to let you guys know its not from you dropping it, putting it in your pocket or anything like that. (blackberry screens do this as well if you press on them from behind as well as the palm centro)

I am also a tech at Sprint, see these an almost all 6800 and even 6900.

itsall_cooool 01-16-2008 03:24 PM

Yeah!!! I have one too!!! And here I was thinking I had a defective screen, hoping it never became worse. At least if this becomes an issue it's probably a class action deal.

sherv 01-16-2008 05:03 PM

Yup, I got a white spot too!

mike6043 01-16-2008 08:50 PM

it happend to mine 2 days after i bought it

bkerk 01-16-2008 09:16 PM

i have the white spots too. and its my second mogul..

ikon 01-16-2008 09:50 PM

Me too with my alltel 6800, 2 in the lower left corner. I also choose to ignore it.
