There are two ways of editing the registry and both require some additional software.
Edit from the phone itself. I find this method useful if I am away from my computer or if I want to make a single change to a known registry location. I am currently using the editor built into the HTC Task Manager (I think that is where it came from anyway). There are a bunch of them along with reviews available here: http://pocketpcmag.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=16508 The second method is an editor running on your Active Sync PC. I use this if there are a lot of changes to make or if I am searching for a particular entry but I do not know exactly where it is (bigger screen and all). For this I use BreakSoft Mobile Registry Editor. It is available here: http://www.breaksoft.com/Blog/Utilities/2005/1/Mobile_Registry_Editor.aspx Interesting name, BreakSoft, because that is exactly what you can do if you are not sure of what you are doing, do not change anything unless you know what that entry does. If things get too mucked up you can do a cold boot and reload the ROM by pressing both soft keys and the reset button. It may take a couple tries but you will know it has done it when it asks for confirmation to proceed, if you just get the normal splash screen then it has not cold booted. Ks.

Save yourself alot of headaches and get into the habit for backing up the registry in any program you before making changes so you can restore if necessary and save yourself a hard reset.
p.s. I use phm regeditor myself, works great. |
