question about Rev. A

hello every one, I have a question about the Rev A update, I remember reading somewhere than Rev A allows cdma devices to maintain a data connection while doing voice. does this mean that our moguls will gain this feature with the update. because I just hate being logged off of AIM every time I get a call.

I remember reading that too, but I'm not sure if that's really so. I kinda doubt it, I could be wrong though!

I wouldn't put my hopes into it.

Y'know if you're by a hotspot (preferably free) or your own WiFi router, you can do data on the router & hold calls during your session, without disrupting the connection.

Still not as convenient but very useful when the option is available at the time. :/

I think the carrier has to enable such features on their end too.

For example i beleive verizon recently did something to their network where if you are on a rev0 data connection and a call comes in the data connection doesn't exactly get shut off but rather just put on 'hold' or something. I forget the specifics but i seem to recall originally if you got a voice call and had data it would dump your data connection but I think now it just goes to sleep or something.

I would assume they would have to upgrade the roms and then also change the settings on their end too.

EVDO is Data Only, not mixed data voice. Even with Rev A

...
the new Qualcomm Rev. A modems can maintain both circuit switched voice and packet data calls from the same radio

so sounds like technically it would be a possibility

Talking

"the new Qualcomm Rev. A modems can maintain both circuit switched voice and packet data calls from the same radio" yeah that's what I remember reading, being that out moguls have these "new qualcomm rev A chips" it would apply to them. hopefully it does as it would make our moguls just a bit sweeter

to be honest i always view what wikipedia says with a grain of salt- so not really sure.

But I have a friend who is a vp for lucent that sells cell phone equipment to both sprint and verizon. I sent him a note asking if it can actually do both at once. I'll post back with his answer.

I previously was under the impression that Rev A would allow for both voice and data. However, no one aside from myself has been super excited for this feature, so I have been wondering if this is actually going to be the case.

Does HSDPA and UMTS allow for both connections?
