Noob Alert

I know I'm way behind the curve with droid and Iphones being everywhere, but I just got my xv6800. I've started looking at tweaking it, and maybe I'm not digging deep enough, but everything I seem to find sounds too advanced for me. Is there somewhere I can find a basics or "for dummies" file/post, so I can get started? I'm also using the phone as my modem, so I don't want to risk turning it into a brick.
