New to ppc6800, basic questions, no service

Hi all,

Just got a used Mogul off ebay and am having a hard time getting service. Sometimes it says phone is off (signal meter red), would you like to turn on? If you click yes it dings and then the signal meter at the top is half blue with an odd symbol next to it. *228 does not connect. Wifi works fine. I have bars on other phones here.

ROM is Mattsm_21893

Are any of these incompatible with each other?

Also its had SuperCID 00000000 done.

In QXDM should esn_chksum read something other than 0xFFFFFFFF?
