Problems with ActiveSync

I'm hoping someone on here can help. Ever since I updated to the new rom on 10/23, my phone has been locking up 2 to 3 times a day. So today I decided to downgrade to the old rom 8.0.9 or whatever it was. I hooked my phone up to my computer, as I have done in the past, but not everyday, and It starts to charge (or so the light says) but no activesync connection. I've gont to settings > Connection > usb to pc and tried the setting in there both off and on. I've deleted profiles in activesync on my phone and on my computer. I've uninstalled and reinstalled activesync 4.5, and i've done a hard reset on my phone. I have no firewall enabled on my PC, which is running windows XP.

Is there a way to update the rom without being connected to the computer. I have the exe and can find the ruu file on my pc whenever i try to install and it extracts it. If I email it to myself, is it possible to put it somewhere and run it or anything similar. I've gone through every trouble shoot page i can find and I'm losing hope.
