long delay [3-4 seconds] answering incoming calls w/ new 2.17
One major bug I've noticed after installing the new 2.17 ROM is that it takes an inordinately long amount of time to answer an incoming call - whether it's through BT headset or using green hard key or "answer" soft key. The call comes in and ringer would ring and notification would come up with caller ID; I answer the call [using any of the three methods] and would have to wait at least 4 seconds before the call would connect. The ringtone stops immediately when I answer the call, but the call does not connect right away.
I have these items installed: WtTasks Quickmenu Rescoe explorer Today/Agenda Esmerec Java Manager VJCandela TouchPal SPB mobile shell SPB phone suite Slinghann Treo Alerts 8.2 Google Maps Sprint TV TCPMP SPB backup Rescoe photo viewer |
I had the same issue with both roms. There is a registry hack that changed mine from ringing after the 2nd ring to ringing after the first ring.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=11296 |
my problem is not a delay ring; it rings a soon as a call comes in - I tested it with a cell and landline calling my mogul and can tell that the ringtone is not delayed. What is delayed is the call itself, getting a slow connection after I answer the call.
|
I had the same problem and it was due to radio version 1.47.01. I downgraded the radio to 1.40 and everything is back to normal. Currently using 2.17 rom with radio 1.40. Hope this helps.
|
I'm having the same problem . How dow I downgrade to the older radio? Will it erase everything on my phone again?
Is there a registry hack to fix the problem????? |
If you use one of the RUU's to update your radio then it will Hard Reset your phone.
I thought there was an RUU that didn't Hard Reset and that's why the Mogul was stuck in boot loader? |
i haven't had a problem, myself. but i changed the sci to 0 also (instead of defaulted 2).

there's a thread....i'll do the work other people would have you do, and find it for ya...
okay, couple windows...and voila. you want item 19 (if i remember correctly from the window) http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=5108 and, it says 'top left' something something...for me, it was wrong. left soft key brought up a list of things, from which to select the modem settings dealy. i didn't have a 'top left' option. i suspect you won't either, seeing as how the keys are defaulted to the bottom. anyhoo, you'll still have to contact your provider (in my case sprint) to find out your msl. just tell them that you need to change your sci. the first person you talk to probably won't have a clue what you're talking about, and they'll transfer you. anyhoo, it can't be a bad thing to know, so just deal with customer service for a while, but make sure you get the msl, and write it down. you may need it in the future (like i did for redoing this damn thing when i redid the ROM). it does help in getting the call faster, and i haven't noticed a drop in battery length (although, i'm happy with anything where i don't have to charge every 10 hours, which is what i was having to do with my last phone. THAT BLOWS, btw). there are some other helpful hints in there in that thread as well |

I've seen that reg edit # 19, but it solve the problem - my problem is not a slow ringer, where the caller complains that I don't pick up the phone, the problem lies in the fact that the phone rings just fine, it's just that I can't connect the call after I hit the green call button, or use the hard "answer" button or hit the soft "answer" button. |
I've been having the same problem, rycelover. Are you using Slide2unlock, per chance?

i used the 2.17 for about 3 days and noticed the problem too, unfortunately i don't think its related to the 1.47.01 radio version...
I upgraded back to WM5 last night but kept the 1.47.01 radio and there's no delay at all when hitting the answer key to pick up a call... |

you know what though, i could have swore someone on here the other day said they went back to the 1.40 radio and they had better results...so who knows...good luck...and let us know
|
If I call my Mogul from my home land line, I hear the line ring twice before the mogul rings for the first time. Even if I hit the green phone button within 1 second of first hearing the ringer, the person calling me will hear a minimum of three rings. I had someone point this out to me today when I answered the phone.
I already set SCI to 1. I am on 2.17 and 1.47.01. Sigh...I may try setting SCI to 0 - but I want more positive feedback from folks that have tried it regarding possible side effects (battery life, whatever) |
Slot Cycle Index will just make your phoone ring faster since it's searching for incoming calls more frequently per second- this also decreases battery life- not to menton won't solve your connection problem. i'd leave it alone.
The posted problem is not a delayed ring, but a delayed connection AFTER the "answer" button is pressed. I have the same problem and I am also running spb mobile shell. any help would be appreciated. |
Don't want to point fingers but I think it may be mobile shell.
I had mobile shell and phone suite both installed before the 2.17 ROM and I had the same problem. I chalked it up to the wonderful ROM that HTC provided us and didn't think more about it. After doing the ROM upgrade, I took a more cautious approach to installing goodies. Anything major (that could dink my Mogul) that I installed, I tested the phone and BT functions first. Needless to say, I don't have the problem anymore and don't have mobile shell installed either. Here is what I got... SPB Phone suite, Diary, PocketPlus, Weather S2u2 .86 codyppc performance booster cab eWallet HTC Performance cab Inesoft Address Book PDANet Threaded SMS Leo's HTC cube |
I have the problem, despite not having Mobile Shell installed.

The ones we have in common are:
Google Maps TCPMP I don't think either of those would be the culprit. |
This kind of thing happens to me frequently with the new roms and i just kinda live with it. Ive tried 1000 different combinations of programs and the only thing that seems to really 100% prevent it is to not install much of anything. I like having a lot of stuff on my phone though so i just end up rebooting 10-15 times a day instead. Mine will lock up 5+ times a day too with 20 megs of program memory free. I almost feel like i must be doing something horribly wrong if a delay in answering the calls is abnormal, lol.
|
I dont have any programs installed except the stock 2.17 ROM, and I get the same delay....Its alot better then one of the custom ROMs on here, where I'd turn on the phone and have 4 missed calls...

Hmm, must be something in the water - did you have this delay in answering problem when you had other ROM's? As for me, this is the first time I'm experiencing this problem and I've installed at least 5 different roms on my mogul [2.09, safuer03, colonel, dcd's clean, no2chem and 2.17] BTW, for those that are having this problem, have you installed any custom dialers or comm managers? Both of mine are stock from 2.17. I'm thinking of changing one or the other or both to see if that changes anything, since it's apparent that the problem is probably not related to any third party software. |
Ok, my problem is not really about the delay... i'm having problems answering incoming call PERIOD! Whether by pressing the green phone button (ignores the call), pressing the left soft key (ignores the call), pressing the bottom bar on the screen itself (ignores the call), answering w/ bt earpiece (call notification continues to show, but 'phone icon' appears above the signal meter, but does not connect and call goes to VM) i'm at whits end about this and its only been noticable in the last 3 days or so... advice... please... before i throw it.
I'm running ROM 2.09 |

I have it installed too and have the same issue and have already changed SCI and registry.... |
i gave up and hard reset... all is working now... i'll be testing further to see what app shut me down last time.
|
If you guys look at my google maps hosed my phone thread it is possible that it is google maps, I was using 2.0 am still trying to get it to work but some difficulty...........

This is exactlly what mine is doing. I cant answer with the hard or soft buttons. FYI no google maps here |
I've experienced the no answer at all problem as well as the delayed answer problem; still no solution. I've tried a lot of different solutions - changing radio from 1.47 to 1.40 back to 1.47; hard reset the device two times, and still randomly get the delay or no answer. I'm ready to throw in the towel and get a touch.
|
the only thing that ended up working for me was to hard reset, and manually reinstall all apps, making sure the soft reset each time i installed ANYTHING to the device. ( i didnt worry about doin the same for storage card apps) this seemed to work for me.
i was intent on finding the prog that was shutting me down so after each install i would place 2 calls: one to my phone to answer by green talk button, and another to answer by bt headset. never had any ring delay or call answering issues after doing this. the really sad part is that after doin all of that testing on the 2.09 rom, i finally flashed to 2.17 last night and practically did the same thing all over to make sure it wouldnt conflict with the newer rom... got done around 3am, but at least my phone is behaving exactly how i want it now... no issues whatsoever now -- or for now... |

I ended up hard resetting and the problem went away. Now, after intalling all apps, it's back. Bummer! Here's what I'm running:
Microsoft Inbox extender Binaryfish All Mobile Mines AE Button Plus Intelligolf Remote Desktop SK Tools Stock Quotes (Triangle Powers) PDA Soduku Kevtetris2 IE Clear On-Lock (Jonathan King) Oxios Memory HTC Voice Recorder JAB StopWatch DT Weather DopeWars HTC Audio Manager Dictionary Editor Device Lock Mortgage Simulator 2.1 Trip Yahtzee HTC Steaming Media VJCandela TCPMP Directory Assistance (Triangle Powers) Live Search Google Maps Flex Wallet 2006 VJ Volubis Voiceminder BTToggle acbPowerMeter Advance Configuration PPC-6800 Hacks (Triangle Powers) ILauncher 3.1 PHM Registry Editor Total Commander As you can see, Google Maps and TCPMP seem to be the files in common for all of us experience these issues. |
Remove Advance Configuration
And the issue will go away. It's related to that app.

I just skimmed the thread, if you have not already check your SCI. Page times and call connect times can be greatly impacted by it. Here is a link to some NAM tweaks which may help... http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=11610 Either way, if you think its application related, you would want to test it with and without each program individually as well as in 1 by 1 combinations (install, check it, install another in addition to, check it) starting from an OEM stock ROM. |
Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I experienced it for the 1st time today and it was horrible; I had to say "hello" 3 times before the caller would hear me. I thought that the call was dropped and almost hung up.
|
Dreamerboy - are you used AdvancedConfig 1.1? If so, it may actually be the culprit. I hard reset about a week ago and have been installing about 2 apps per day. I'm using Advanced Config 1.0 this time and I currently don't have this issue.
I have no idea if there's any truth to this, but I've heard others speculate Google Maps is the culprit. I haven't put that software on the phone yet either. |
Nope, I have a vanilla setup since I'm a new user--the only programs I have added are Google Maps, PocketTV, Live Search (maps), a remote desktop utility, the HTC Home & customizer, that X/program-closing thing, and emoze (which I only turn on 1x/day). I'm running 2.17 ROM and the 1.47 radio. I also kept the Sprint programs. I really hope it's not Google Maps because I love that program. If any of you guys has success fixing this problem, please post here.

Re: long delay [3-4 seconds] answering incoming calls w/ new 2.17
So I hate to revive a dead horse...but I have seen this problem through many ROMs and resets from time to time. I am going through another "Mogul won't answer" phase right now, and just discovered something interesting. If the phone is set to ring (i.e. non-vibrate), I can reproduce the issue. But, if I turn the phone to vibrate, I can answer calls normally with either the answer softkey or the hard button. What the hell? FWIW, I am using No2Chem 5049 right now.
