Exclamation Backlight Problem (Big Problem!! Please help!!)

I installed the HTC.Kaizer.Home.Plugin.with.Tabsetting.schen.

Just clicking around to see what things were I clicked on the 3rd icon over from the left in the default launcher section and my screen went black!! No matter what I do I can't figure out how to get the light back on. Yes, it's late and I'm apparently not as smart as I thought I was but . . . . . . . . help please!

Device is apparently still working. Can call out by pressing the phone button twice thus calling the last number dialed. Can communicate via active sync in the cradle. Just can't see my screen. I've soft reset the phone. I pulled the battery for about 5 minutes and restarted it. All to no avail. I really hope I haven't killed my phone. It appears I turned off the backlight so . . . . . . . really stupid question . . . . . how the heck do I turn it back on? I know it'll be something real simple so please let me have it!! Aaauuuggghhh!!!

Sorry for such a stupid first post but as you can probably tell, I'm kind of freaking out over here!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you see the screen when it's under a light source? You should be able to see that the screen is on even if the backlight isn't. The light should turn back on after touching the backlight icon. I suspect the device may be faulty since it didn't turn back on after removing the battery.

Does plugging it into a charger do anything?

press the red "hang up" key then press approximately where the icon you pressed before was. You seem to have pressed the backlight button, turning off the backlight. Like o_O said, you should be able to see the screen if you put it under a lamp.

I used another phone to do it.. press the windows key, than press up on the d-pad twice, select... than press up once, then right, then up, then right, then select.. then press right. do this after a soft reset.

Well, thanks for all the replies. I ended up doing a hard reset before I got the advice about holding it under a lamp. Via the HTC site I learned about being able to do the hard reset by holding the left and right soft keys down with the device powered off and pressing the soft reset button. This appears to do a hard reset that's somewhat different from the "clear storage" in that it goes all the way back to having to install the Alltel customizations. Never saw that after doing the "clear storage" option before.

Anyway, a very scary situation was resolved. What in the world would have caused this? It's not the first time I've installed the HTC.Kaizer.Home.Plugin.with.Tabsetting.schen plug-in. This is my 4th 6800 in the past 5 weeks. I've gotten total lemons so far. But it was very weird to have that happen last night to say the least. Of course it has to happen at 2am when I was getting to ready to crash!! Arg!!!!!!

I'll have to figure it out though because I really like that plug-in.

Oh well, again, thanks a lot for the replies!

Uh, you turned off the backlight. When you turn off the backlight it...causes the backlight to turn off.

Yeehaw! The same thing just happened to me! I pressed that stinkin lamp to find out what it was and bam! Darkness. Couldn't see the screen with a lamp either (even tho it fried my eyeballs trying). But your post saved me! You are my new HERO! *claps hands*

*leaves forum to search settings to remove dreaded lamp icon from HTC Home plugin*
