Flashing Red Light during Charging

Has anyone experienced this?

I have an extended Mugen battery for my wife's 6800. She's been complaining that it's losing contact with the battery and I went to plug it in.

Well, when I did and powered it on, it powered back down with a flashing Red Light that continued until I yanked the battery and sanded the contacts a little.

I hope this trusty little phone isn't about to croak on me. I've had it for a little over a year and it's been quite reliable. I recently upgraded to a Touch Pro and gave my little diehard to my wife (since she knows quite a bit about it anyway).
