who's sprint 2.16 rom is working good? take poll and reply to thread.

i just want to start by saying mine is working fine. i have had no dpad problems, no phone lock ups, no problems connecting to exchange, no problems with bluetooth turning off, and it seems that my bluetooth sounds better. although i have only used bluetooth about an hour a day for the last two days.

i know that these problems have filled the boards on many forums. i want to know how many have had good luck with this update. know one ever post the good stuff. we just hear about the problems. i no it is not perfect, but is it all that bad?

this thread (and poll) results maybe helpful in letting sprint/htc know that thay failed, if that be the case.

please take a second to vote. reply as well.

thanks, cody

edit... before you vote try this... Turn BT on and let your device go to sleep. Turn the power back on and try to use your D-pad. It shouldn't work.

i thought i was all good with the update untill now. darn it. looks like i'm going back to dcd's roms.

Installing mine now. PS Cody, can you take a look at http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=10431 for me, I think you'd have an answer

JackSchitt28 10-25-2007 01:28 PM

mine is fine in all aspects, only screwey thing now that i never had before is when i soft reset and it comes back to the today screen, the wifi turns on and then i have to dismiss any found signals, and thats with the wifi switch off. other than that everything is good.

codyppc 10-25-2007 01:28 PM

wow all ready 3 good and no bad. see i thought it may have been better than it appeared.

honan 10-25-2007 01:32 PM

Installed last night, wife already can tell the difference with my H700 headset. Bluetooth so far better.

Already made the tethering edit and still works.

hmmm, sounds like you have push email enabled. this happens to me when i softreset while the device is set to airplain mode (radio off). it has something to do with push REALLY wanting to connect. this has always been the case. even with the old roms(2.08 and 2.09).

altho i have not seen what you are experinceing. i have push and have soft reset a few times. very weird though.

yeah your probably right, it never did it before with the old rom. either way it is no big deal. i just dismiss it and by then it is in evdo connected again.

Love the update! Notice a small difference in speed, loading, keyboard. Still works with my cheap A2DP headphones! Over all, I'm glad I did the update, worth cleaning out the phone and reloading all of the newest software. Best of all works with SprintRelay now!

dishe 10-25-2007 01:46 PM

you guys who don't have the lockups...

Mine was working fine at first too. It wasn't until I went to my office where there is a weak signal that it started freezing up. At one point it got so bad that the phone would lock up upon the soft reset! It wouldn't even finish booting!
Then when I went home to my good EVDO coverage area, everything seemed fine again.

We're pretty sure it has to do with the Radio ROM part of the update, more specifically, the phone goes a bit nutty when switching networks (roaming in and out) on a weak signal. If you're in a good coverage area, everything is hunky dory, and you guys might think your update works great! But then you might go into a store or travel somewhere only to find that your phone has locked up in your pocket and you missed a lot of calls without knowing! Worse yet, even after soft resetting, your phone won't be stable again until you move to a different location.

Just cuz it works now doesn't mean there isn't a problem. This is serious.

gxnext 10-25-2007 01:46 PM

too soon to say for me. theres always a improvement on a hard reset as well after some use. but so far I wanna say it seems to behave better... the real test is my brothers girlfriend, she seems to have a way with (creating) finding errors.

mezozoy 10-25-2007 01:48 PM

Issues with DPad and BT (A2DP)

After soft reset DPad works fine for some time, but after waking up from standby it stops responding.
BT (A2DP profile) keeps loosing connection, using Moto S9. When phone sits in BT range for some time, it keeps repairing every 15min. or so- headphones make the connection sound for no reason.

Did hard reset before ROM update and allowed Sprint customization to run completely. Have some soft installed already- HTC Home, MS VC 1.6, PocketCM Keyboard and Contacts etc.

signothefish 10-25-2007 01:49 PM

Everyone do this: Turn BT on and let your device go to sleep. Turn the power back on and try to use your D-pad. It shouldn't work.

neuteboomt 10-25-2007 01:54 PM

Everything works good as long as I keep BT off when not in use and set the phone to Sprint only. With the Bt on the phone's DPad will not work after it comes out of sleep mode. So I make sure I turn the BT off when I no long use the headset to listen to music or talk on the phone.

i have been reading where people claim it is when thay which between evdo and 1x. i live in a fringe area ( on the boarder of evdo area) and it switches all the time. never had anyproblems beside battery life while it is switching. hmmm.

mezozoy 10-25-2007 01:58 PM

I think you are on to something here....

Just turned BT stack off on the phone and DPad is working fine.
Remember old days on PC (pre PnP)- if you had multiple devices on same IRQ, like mouse and NIC, it was working the same way- one at a time :-/

maybe that has something to do with it. i was told to do another hardreset after flashing rom. i do this even with sprint released roms. hmmm.

ok, this did give me problems. i will edit my first post and give a link to this post. hmmm maybe we should start calling sprint.

JohnH59 10-25-2007 02:07 PM

Update went okay. The only problems I have now are BT turns off and D-Pad occasionally stops for a few moments.

NissanGuy01 10-25-2007 02:08 PM

I rarely post but...

I updated my Rom yesterday around 3pm. Everything was working fine, until I went to my GF's house around 8pm(I Roam constantly or have no service there). The Dpad quit working momentarily. After turning BT on, and letting my phone sleep; My Dpad still works. So it was just a momentary lapse. However, my GF and others report that I sound alot better via blueteeth. I honestly seem to have better battery life and no roaming issues. However, now my phone states that is it no longer refurbished(after being replaced) and does not have an activation date.

It is still early into this new ROM, but after the dust settled; I think it is worth the update.

Donatom3 10-25-2007 02:14 PM

Ok I have the dpad problem when leaving bluetooth on. If I shut bluetooth off the dpad starts working again. No need for a soft reset.

TurboFool 10-25-2007 02:26 PM

So far mine's been smooth. I haven't tested the Bluetooth yet, though, as I only just recharged the Bluetooth headset I haven't bothered to try to use for months, pairing it for the first time since the new ROM. Hopefully now it will actually consistently see it when I turn it on.

pixelwix 10-25-2007 02:32 PM

new rom works perfect for me, no slow downs everything just works, with all my programs installed i get 25megs at boot and its with apps opened and closed it goes backup between 23-20 never below that so thats good.

apps installed is

HTC Task Manger ver2.030487.2
HTc Home ver2.0.814.722
HTC Random Access from touch 2
Plam SMS
TCPMP ver.81

Resco Exp Ftp RegEdit ver6.16
Telenav ver5.2
MS Live with speach
AC S2U2 ver.06
MS remote desktop
FlashVedioBundle
Sprint TV
Sprint Music
Tomtom Nav ver6

bluetooth is awsome in my car, i use my cardeck Pioneer DEH-9800BT and its awsome, headset and A2DP audio both clear and loud.
and everything just works.

i guess i just got a good 6800 :)

drurc8 10-25-2007 02:33 PM

Hi All,
Is Sprint or HTC aware of bluetooth shut-off problems? Did they test this new rom with bluetooth headset? It seems like there is no phone engineer employed by Sprint or HTC.

papped 10-25-2007 02:34 PM

Mine has been working great. No new problems introduced by the update.

signothefish 10-25-2007 02:39 PM

People have been talking about the phone lock up. It's true! While I wouldn't call it a "lock up", it sure does slow your phone's response time down considerably. In fact, to an almost unusable state:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...2&postcount=57

WARNING: This may cause your phone to completely lock up. Making it so dead, you have to take the battery out and put it back in to use it.

Everyone do this: Go into the Phone app (Settings > Phone > Services), select Roaming and tap the Get Settings button. (Now the other poster has you changing the Roaming setting between Sprint, Automatic and Roaming and then it freezes after hitting OK -> OK) However, in my testing, I hit OK twice between EACH setting change, and then went back to the Roaming settings screen each time. After a few times the phone will lock up or slow to a crawl. It usually only takes 1-3 changes.

krohnjw 10-25-2007 02:47 PM

I have all three problems:

D-Pad not working when BT on and phone goes to sleep. This is 100% repeatable. I can power on and off to get D-Pad functionality back so only a minor annoyance.

Bluetooth randomly shutting off. It is turning itself off and has to be manually enabled through the comm mgr.

Phone locking up when changing coverage. I live in an area with pretty good coverage but it will drop and switch occasionally. 5 lockups in 2 days so far.

I am on the phone with Sprint now. Tier 1 tech was not aware - waiting on hold for a Tier 2 tech to see what they say.

Edit: Well Tier 2 changed halfway through the conversation. At first she stated that it must be some sort of hardware issue with my phone and I should take it to the store. Upon further explanation to her of how this was VERY unlikely to be a hardware issue and why it was very likely a software issue she advised that they were aware of the issues and Sprint was working on it but that there was not ETA. She suggested I do a hard reset to restore the phone to the "original sprint software" that was on there before the ROM update.....

willysp 10-25-2007 02:51 PM

The new ROM is absolutely unusable for me. 3 DSOD's in 4 hours - with NO apps installed, BT not turned on, haven't even made any calls. A clean install, hard reset, soft reset to avoid SprintWare. About as vanilla a test as you can have - and just unusable for me!

I've already gone back to the 'music store' ROM, and plan to try the Alltel 5 and 6 ROMs this weekend.

signothefish 10-25-2007 02:53 PM

Whoever is saying this device is working flawlessly does not understand the problems, or has not tried out some of the things others have suggested on here to try. It's simple folks... EVERYONE has these problems if they upgraded the ROM. That red bar up top shouldn't be showing, and the blue should be almost twice as long. Despite the OP's best efforts, the poll is only as good as the audience it was intended for.

People who are unaware of the issues may be reading the answers differently. Technically the update *did* work - my Bluetooth audio is great now. It merely introduced a new series of problems :(

I am curious if anyone else has contacted Sprint regarding these issues and what they were advised. I seemed to get 2 answers from the same person :-/

sfjonah 10-25-2007 03:14 PM

Kinda shocked

I am kinda shocked about the upgrade. yes it fixed my bluetooth issue, but it also fixed an issue I had with the speaker crackling.

of course trying to use voice dialing now won't place a call...

xmentalx 10-25-2007 03:16 PM

my roaming works with no issues, i do have the dpad BT issues but i so rarely use it, its not even a concern for me so i voted accordingly

holo 10-25-2007 03:24 PM

I have pretty much all the problems mentioned - BT shuts off randomly (ALL the time - even if it doesn't shut off I very often have to manually disable and reenable it to get my headset to pair again), phone has probably locked up as many times in the past 2 days as it has the entire time I've owned it, and the dpad quit working once also, I messed around tapping different places on the screen and it started working again (don't remember what I did, this was before I knew it was an issue with the rom and it's the only time it happened since I don't really use it)

markgamber 10-25-2007 03:30 PM

I can't blame the update per se, but after the update, the phone couldn't connect to the data network, giving me errors 67 and 1012. After a little digging, I noticed something had changed the username so, using EPST, I changed it back which got IOTA working again and, in short order, all was well again. But it was weird that the update would cause that. Anyway, after that was out of the way, it worked fine amd continues to do so. Performance is better, network latency is a fraction of what it had been and there are no problems with bluetooth BUT the problem with DirectDraw that affected Slingplayer and Windows Media Player (and TCPMP in DirectDraw mode) is still there. Still half-nasty video in full screen with lagging audio. Here's to better luck next time.

thecalip 10-25-2007 03:32 PM

My problem is the phone constant lock up. My room for some reason can't get any single, and have manually set to roaming to get any services. Before this update, roaming is always good. After the update, I am constantly out of services even on roaming.

The phone always freeze too. That's shortly after a soft reset. Never has this problem on the old rom.

ls3mach 10-25-2007 04:13 PM

I voted that my phone was working and it is...

However I have had the BT issue. Not a huge concern for me, but I still see it as a bug. I also did the roaming thing, it ddn't slow or anything, but when I turned the screen off it wouldn't wake back up. Still this rom is working for me. I have some more testing to do.

brianb 10-25-2007 04:49 PM

Mine's working awesome! I couldn't care less about the direction pad..people actually use that thing?

The d-pad is the only negative I've seen so far and as I said..that doesn't even effect me..phone is faster, alarm works, and memory utilization is down.

Can't say enough good things here :)

ajac 10-25-2007 05:32 PM

I am only having the lock up issue :( it was wroking great beyond that

EDGE23 10-25-2007 05:36 PM

mine is working like normal,, honestly i didnt see any difference if any. maybe because i dont use bluetooth, if it makes a difference i didnt let sprint customizations run.

PPC67002481 10-25-2007 05:40 PM
