WARNING: If the device is Hard Reset/Cold Booted, the encryption keys will be permanently deled and cannot be retrieved to decrypt the card!

troubleshooting:
When Storage Card Encryption is enabled, the DPAPI master key (decryption key) is stored on the devices internal flash. If the device is hard rest/cold booted, the encryption key will be deleted and cannot be retrieved! When a customer is doing a Hard Reset/Cold Boot, if the device detects that Storage Card Encryption is enabled, it will give them a warning to back up the files from their card so they can be retrieved once the encryption key is deleted during the Hard Reset process. An encrypted storage card cannot be recovered if the device is hard booted. That would circumvent the security...

I have run into just about the same problems except my phone was broke so when I went back to sprint I took my SD card out and thne they gave me a new phone. Any help would be great. I have tried 3 different roms and a card reader on my CPU.

Data on an encrypted storage card can NEVER (unless you have some expensive decryption breaking device that isn't available to the public) be recovered without the original device. Also, the data on an encrypted storage card can NEVER be recovered if your device is hard booted.

I'm sorry, but anything on that card is lost. Reformat it and remember to turn off encryption. Unless you have sensitive data (your houses keypad code and website logins are not sensitive), you don't really need it.

you can try the flash back, and you might get "lucky".

However I wouldnt be too hopeful. And the vendor sprint/htc really SHOULDNT help you recover that kind of data. Seriously. What you are offering them is a phone, and a seperate sd chip, that you SAY is yours and has YOUR data.

Doesnt it start violating the entire protection scheme if they have a ready way to recover this? I'm not saying you arent stating the truth, but, security is security, and to even be ABLE to decrypt that card would, in my mind, be a violation. You need a key to the card.

By decryption tool, I meant something at the NSA or FBI... there isn't a commercially available method to break the encryption.

Reflashing your rom will NOT work...

I don't think this option is on by default. Most people should leave it off.
