What is this icon mean (network/phone)??

Please see attached - what does this mean about the status of my phone connection? It seems to be off, but not the same as when I turn the phone off. This showed up when I used Phonealarm to turn my bluetooth off at night and back again in the morning.

No service or flight mode.....

very odd; Communication Manager shows flight mode off, and I can get 3 bars back by turning the phone off and then back on (in Communication Manager), so I know there's service where I am. It's a weird mode that PhoneAlarm is putting my radio into that seems to be neither on nor off?
