Location of the Turn Screen Off exe/lnk?
 

When you press and hold the End key you get that pop up with 4 buttons, one of them is "Turn Off Screen"

I like how that turns off the screen instantly (and locks the phone). Anyone know where that exe is, if it even is an exe?
I like the WM6.5 lock, so I'm not looking to replace it yet.

On really easy way to accomplish this is using ChangeScreen

Install changescreen - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=468488

in the changescreen_conf - Under the "Advanced" tab check "Suspend device in pocket"

Also - remember to set Manila & Cprog (maybe others) to vertical as default

No more pocket dialing!

Create a shortcut for \Windows\DeviceLock.exe and map it to a hardware key. I use the Media Key since I dont use it for anything else.

Yeah, I have a shortcut to DeviceLock right on my Today screen. But the display stays lit for 5 seconds or whatever.
No biggie I guess, but I wish I knew how to access the button "Turn Screen Off" instead.

hmmm ... I dont have an issue (yet) from pocket dialing. I just wanted the display off without a pause - not for any real reason, I guess.

I use changescreen already. I hadn't tried that option, but I will. Thanks.

Now you guys have me thinking.

Are there different levels of lock/suspend? Is the device simply locked with the screen off, or is there also some sort of suspend going on? And what are the ways to have it suspend vs merely being locked with the display off?

You can set it so that everytime your screen/backlight turn off the lock is on.

"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\BackLight\AutoDevi ceLockEnable" from 0 to 1

and AutoDeviceLockTimeout = 0 instead of 5 (secs)

Damn, I hadn't thought about a regedit for the AutoDeviceLockTimeout!!!
That's exactly what I was looking for. :occasion5:

hmmmm ... on a side note, I'm not sure what happened, but I just went into Resco File Explorer to do the regedit, and man is Resco going blazingly fast. I've never seen it so fast - navigating and also the directories open quicker than the eye can see, almost. Even the registry entries and saving them or whatever.

hmmm ... I thought I only need the AutoDeviceLockTimeout, so I set that to 0 and rebooted. No go. So I did the other edit and rebooted.

When I press DeviceLock.exe, it goes to lock screen and then about 5 seconds later it dims and then 3 seconds it goes out.

EDIT: though that AutoDeviceLockTimeout does control the number of seconds till display goes out if you lock it by holding down the End key and pressing "Lock Device". So what is the difference between that and \Windows\LockDevice.exe?

Using AE button plus I am able to set my media key to turn off my display on the second press. works well although the program is not free. there has to be an app out there somewhere that will do the shttp://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.phpame thing.

Map one of the soft keys (Lock for example) to xdaShutdown located here:

And then choose the Sleep option which blanks the screen and locks immediately. Works great. Gives you options to restart and shut down as well. Custom skins on that same thread as well.

Ah, that's perfect. I've tried various things, some even worked but a little glitchy - like the screen would start to change and you'd catch a glimpse of that before it blanked out, etc ...

I kept thinking of the Poket Plus Today plugin that had that Screen Toggle buttton that blanked the screen.
That xdashutdown does exactly that - instant and clean screen shutdown. And that also locks the phone too, of course.

You simply create a lnk to the xdashutdown.exe, but you need to edit it and add the -lightsout option, like so:
45#"\Program files\xdaShutdown\xdaShutdown.exe" -lightsout

Yeah if you want it to be an immediate Sleep/Lock. I like having the menu option in case I want to soft reset as well. Though I suppose you could do the menu on one softkey and the Sleep function on another.

Yes, and there seem to be some very nice skins available. Very slick little app.

I like Mobile Shell and flicking around between the various today screens you can have. I have a few desktop shortcuts now for xdashutdown (using the -lightsout option) and I already had some for Soft Reset (though I use Singh's, since it doesn't ask, it just does it). If I want to shutdown, which I would only do if I was getting on a plane, I'll just do a long press of the End key. ;)
I could use xdashutdown, but no sense making a shortcut to something I'll use a few times a year.

If you go to the Menu options when in the xdaShutdown screen you can toggle if you want confirmation when restarting or shutting down. I didn't notice it in the beginning either.

Yes it does.

For those concerned about memory, it does use up 1mb when screen on and 1/2 when off.

i don't seem to be having much luck with it. either i'm doing something wrong or you have to shake it way to hard to be useful. i tried adjusting the settings and it didn't help much.

I tried changing the Front to Back setting to 10 and some other setting higher than 10, but after exiting the config and opening it back up, that one feedback setting would be back to 5.
I have just now set it to 8, and that is sticking. And I like 8 better too.

I set the Front to Back to Minimize (you can chose minimize or close) and the Back to Front to ScreenToggle.

It works ok. It is a lot easier to flick a program closed than to press the X, though I could of course just press the End button.
You sort of flick it back to front, or vice versa. You have to travel a significant distance, but not six inches like the author suggest. Just make sure to come to an abrupt stop.

The ScreenToggle flick still works for me if the screen is off, which is how it is supposed to and how I have it set, but after the screen has been off for a few minutes it no longer willl work froom G-Trigger.

Also I set the Left to Right to my SPB Keyboard, but that does nothing. Though I could only point it to the Program Folder for SPB Keyboard - it wont let you chose the .exe (or any) file, just the folder.

Downloaded and installed the above app. It resets, it shutsdown, but it does not lock my phone. It only shuts down the screen but when I bring it back up it is where I left it, unlocked.

I wonder if the behavior of the app is because of the initial not going into lock mode. IE, whatever is causing it to not happen is also causing the app to not lock?

I keep seeing posts about this problem but no one seems interested in determining if it is software or hardware. Sounds like it is a hardware problem.

This bug is exactly how the phone will behave if the stylus is removed or if the hardware sensor for the stylus is broken.

Do a hard reset. If the problem still occurs, return the phone because that means it is hardware and can't be fixed.

i used this app for a day and it always locked my phone.
i have never had my phone not lock when the screen turns off.
sometimes i wish it wouldn't lock as it is a pain when getting lots of texts....

anyway i uninstalled the program because it started to crash my phone (memory errors).

You can map the multimedia key to "Display Switch" in the Advanced Settings\Personal\Buttons option. Once you do this, a double tap on multimedia key will immediately turn off the screen and lock the device.

Update: The "Display Switch" option is available after installing psshutxp (a link to the program is provided in the Imagio Setup Guide thread.

Ah, another nice solution kdittha.
I use that key for SPB Keyboard though.
But now I like using G-Trigger for doing an xdashutdown -lightsout
though I use G-Trigger for opening the SPB Keyboard as well, so maybe I'll give the media key method a try.

EDIT: I need another button. I'm gonna go find regedit for the windows key - with Mobile Shell, I rarely use that now and certainly dont need it.

I am trying to do what you said but I do not see "Display Switch" in the drop down box. Do you have to install the XDAShutdown?

"Display switch" is one of the choices that appeared for me in drop down menu of available programs that I can assign to the multimedia key. I did not have to install any extra programs.

I just double checked the drop down box options. "Display switch" is listed in alphabetical order between "contacts" and "e-mail."

Yes, I have the imagio. Just picked it up today from the VZW store. The only cabs I have installes are the updated 3D graphics driver and dynamic resources hack from the TP2.

On a side note what does the updated 3D graphics CAB do? I assume a newer driver but whats the difference?

That's curious that you don't have the display switch option. My Imagio has the same ROM version as cited by others as stock (ROM 1.08.605.11 dated 9/14/09).

The driver cab was listed in the tweaks discussion topic and is suppose to improve the fluidity of movement of the Touch Flo tabs as well as generally improve graphics performance (although I haven't notice much difference).

In Resco, you can select the .lnk file and click Menu > View. You can edit from there too, cant you?

I figured out a weird way to change it. I went into the shortcut address and made it say

"Program Files\xdaShutdown\xdaShutdown.exe" -sleep

You must have installed something to have that option. Changescreen perhaps? I show a lot of programs in that list, but no Display Switch.

Thanks! I went back through my installed programs list and found that the "display switch" option appears after installing psshutxp (a restart program listed in the imagio setup guide thread; I forgot I had installed this).

I verified that removing the program also removed the display switch option and reinstalling put it back.
