So I tried many versions of the Android buils and system.txt files but it does is reboot my phone.
Does the phone have to be unlocked for this to work?

Mine is unlocked but it also resets. so i tried the other one but it just hangs during boot.

Android is not a special "thing" you just put anywhere and run, it has a kernel and is composed out of drivers and configurations, i'm pretty shure everething is out there but needs to be packed out together...

I'm a software developer but i have no experience compiling Android, my research is driving me to the HTC Lexikon (Merge) recently launched, this PDA hardware is very similar to the Imagio and it stock's Android so the work will be almost done and we won't need to start from "0", if you can help about please contact me..

I dont think this will ever take off... with just the sucky hardware buttons nobody will want to spend much time on this (not me at least)

You are very far from knowledge friend, hardware keys are just mapping (grab the key-codes and configure the txt file for each function), our real concern is about the CDMA radio and GSM radio, wi-fi module, bluetooth, sound chip, gps and accelerometer. Also it is very important that the OS can share the phone radios and you can switch; The HTC Merge is the only one HTC Android phone that is CDMA/GSM capable... do you know another Android CDMA/GSM phone?
