My Only Gripe With The Hero (vent)

[VENT] i love this thing... from senseUI to the apps and everything in between, but my only (and biggest gripe, besides the sub par camera) is that the browser SUCKS IMO. Dont get me wrong, its one of the most full featured browsers available today, like the well designed bookmarks, pinch zoom, auto text reflow, flash etc... but the user experience using this is most of the time unbearable. Its really slow, most pages take forever to load, clunky, text imput lag is horrible... did i mention it was slow? Makes Opera Mobile look good on its worst day and makes me realize how good of a browser i had on the Palm Pre... its one of the biggest assets in a smartphone and it really rubbed me the wrong way... just thought id share.. [/VENT]

that was my thought exactly, until I tried dolphin browser, that together with the Gutted Rom extras (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=97653) the internet browsing is much, much better.

Dolphin browser is way better than the stock browser. Much quicker to load pages.

flash is the reason for the browser being slow. Just go into settings in the browser and uncheck javascript. Your pages will load much quicker. That is the way I have mine setup and it works great. If you want even more of a boosts, you can go and uncheck the plugins, but I don't recommend that.

Re: My Only Gripe With The Hero (vent)

Yeah, unchecking the javascript definitely helps alot.

And I don't know... maybe I'm in the minority here, but I think this browser (especially after disabling java) is heads and shoulders above Opera Mobile. Now i'm sure this is a combination of the phone's hardware/software and the actual browser. I'm coming from a Touch Pro running Opera and you couldn't pay me to go back that thing. Like I said, the way more responsive touch screen, better acceleration, larger screen, etc play a part in it as well.

I'd still be curious to see Opera make a good Android browser.

Definitely try Dolphin. They added multi-touch zooming support for the Hero a few days ago... though it's kind of sluggish right now.

Re: My Only Gripe With The Hero (vent)

Not to hijack a thread, but I want to know if anybody has found a browser that can do some sort of compatibility mode for ie. We have a web based ticketing / crm / billing system that has a mobile web version that was built for pocket ie. I want to use it, but every browser I try I don't have any luck

Re: My Only Gripe With The Hero (vent)

Not finding Dolphin to be faster* than the default browser (after the MR) but its definetly a step up to better browsing.

*= Dolphin took its time loading Google.com

Tried Dolphin. Still liking the stock browser. I uninstalled it last night.
