HTC Mogul to....Hero?

I have a Mogul, and I need to upgrade. I am fed up, and I am done with this ancient piece of crap. I have been looking at 2 phones, the HTC Hero and the Samsung Moment. I think I have leaned more towards the Hero, as I no longer want to carry bricks in my pockets...I like the slimness (comparative) and weight vs the Moment. So, that being said, I have a couple questions....
first, should I opt for the Hero, or is there something spectacular I am missing with a Moment?

secondly - will I be able to tether with a Hero without alerting Sprint like the Mogul could?

third - after loading a phone down with apps, how responsive is it?

fourth - how well does the GPS work? is it pinpoint accurate like the mogul, good enough for say....geocaching?

thanks for the help guys and girls!

1- AMOLED screen looks gorgeous on the Moment and the Hero pales in comparison, and the 800mhz CPU should be fun. But SenseUI OWNS ALL!!!! (not just the homescreen, i mean everything HTC did to Android) Moment doesnt compare at all in that department, plus HTC promised Android 2.0 on hero

2- yup, PDANET, and also rooting the device allows you to use Wifitether. Its built in the custom rom modaco made for our Heros

3- in my experience, no different than when i had 0 apps, Android does a swell job of memory management

4- yup, plus it comes with a cool geocatching app (footprints)

1- (pretty good so far) better than Pre, better than Touch Pro, but not Better than Vogue IMO (which i had to compare it to) It will be a lot better when HTC releases the maintenance update to fix the SMS app killing battery

2- yes

Re: HTC Mogul to....Hero?

how is the app store? lots of apps? easy to install? any maintenance required for apps(updates, etc)?

sorry for all the questions, sprint is royally screwing me on this one...so i just want to make sure i get what i pay for this time.

edit - is their any other phone you would currently get besides this one? or is this the creme de la creme?

12000 and counting, most of them free. The app store will tell you if an update is available for any app you have installed

plus you can download apps from the web just like winmo. .APK files install just like .CAB files. click and install.... easy as that

Re: HTC Mogul to....Hero?

get the hero..i use to have the mogul...before the mogul i had the 6700....AFTER the mogul i had the touch pro.... ALL GARBAGE!! dont get me wrong i love windows and swore by it. but as time passed, the iphone i had to admit was getting on me.... got jealous of how they had all these cool apps and no lag on their phones....

but then i saw the hero! got it the day before it came out! i got to tell you the phone is amazing for its price.... the piece of shiet touch pro was garbage and way overpriced....my bro had the tp2, and he returned it for a hero. the battery life on the hero is EXCELLENT compared to ALL of my windows phones for some reason... when i tether , it doesnt get super hot ..infact it hardly gets warm...i used it day and night for a week...no issues. i didnt use the pdanet as the person here mentioned, i used a tethering method which i found on xda forums....it works good for me and its free. im sure once this hero picks up on its rooting, well be good in tethering just like the winmobile phones. currently someone just rooted it and developed a custom rom...so in no time well have a bunch of new roms.

Re: HTC Mogul to....Hero?

I upgraded from a mogul to the hero. Worlds difference. The hero is just fantastic. Battery life is good. I think my mogul had slightly better battery life, but it's kind of a wash for me.

Apps are great. If you install an app, and an update becomes available, it will say "Update Available" in the market under "My Applications".

The number of apps you have installed doesn't matter, when looking at performance on the phone. It's what you have running that matters. It's like WM. If you leave a bunch of stuff open, the phone slows down, and experiences some lag.

I just rooted mine, so I haven't messed with tethering yet (haven't installed any custom roms yet).

I did just download Overclock Widget. The phone runs like a beast when it is on. I notice a difference.

from the sprint lineup, i like the tp2 and the hero. i went from the mogul to the tp2 and got the hero for my wife. i really like both of them. the tp2 seems like a total brick compared to the hero. however, coming from a mogul the tp2 doesnt feel like a brick to me. i would describe it as solid. considering the price difference between the two it is hard to go wrong with the hero. android is pretty cool and it can do all of the things you want to do with your phone.
