when I did this it said do you want to format the card i hit yes and it did nothing...it may be my sd being stupid. I have formatted the SD card (fat32) via my computer several times now and it still doesn't work. The funny thing is that the card works fine for storing and accessing my media, but it looks like I'm off to buy a new sd card.

I see so it works on your comp but won't format? That sucks. Maybe try just partitioning back to fat 32 then formatting before you purchase another.

When I plug the card into the comp, I goto my computer/SD card drive. Right click "format" it is set to fat 32 as default. Then it takes a minute to format and its done. Then when I I plug it into my phone it gives me the sdtools.sh error. What do you mean partition it before I format it?

Boot into recovery. There is a partition option that is only Fat32. Use that.

Reboot phone from top option in recovery image.

Go to Menu>Settings>SD Card & Phone Storage>Unmount

Now you can hit format. If it works good, if not you have an error as suspected. If its SanDisk and 16gb I have had probs w it before so I wouldn't suggest using another unless its warranty fix, which they are pretty helpful with.

this is going to take awhile to figure out. i can cook up a rom for WinMo and Root a Pre but this Android is a whole nother shot of Whiskey... imma have to do some more reading to understand what yall are talking bout. but im just bout out of room on my phones memory so if i want to install some more apps im going to have to figure this out here.

Ok just so i understand correctly. I have Fresh 1.1 installed, it automatically has A2SD, correct? Or do i have to do the extra steps in order for it to work? Thanks.

You need to create an EXT3 partition on your SD card for it to work.

okay so im on fresh 1.1 and Ive created the swap=128mb, the ext2=1024mb, and the rest as fat32... but my phone memory is still going down = to the amount of apps im installing.... what am i doing wrong?, i saw in the post above I need an ext3 partition as well? is that where my apps will be installed at?

and if so...
I'm using a 16g sd card and want 1gig for the phone apps, just in case, lol
so what should my settings be? and should I start all over reformat card, do the partitions and then reinstall fresh 1.1?
